Iphone 4 or 4S

Guys,

Has anybody done the iPhone 4 to 4S upgrade? I've got my new iPhone 4S, and I can't decide whether to use it, and sell the 4, or sell the 4S and continue to use the 4. I'm already on my 3rd 4S, the first two I returned since they didn't work properly.

I can sell the 4S for around £550, or the 4 for £350, I'll hopefully upgrade to the 5 within a year.

So any happy 4S users out there? Any great advice?

Cheers,

I got a 64Gb 4S last October. I went from a 32Gb 3GS to this so its a big improvement both in capacity and the phone itself. The display is so much clearer and precise compared side by side with the 3GS. I like the HD video function and viewing the photos on a laptop, I have to say they are very clear and detailed.

Saying that, its not without its problems. When I first got it, the battery was fine, lasting a day and a half. Now, its half a day. It gets hot too. I'm hoping a software update will sort that.

My wife has just bought a white 4S (again, going from a 3GS) and the glass surround was chipped. She took it back to Apple and they swapped it no problem. This new one keeps losing her contacts though. One minute, she has all of them, then for no reason they all disappear. The only way to get them back is to plug it into iTunes.
Her apps won't load either- theyr'e all in "waiting" mode for some reason. Her battery is fine at the moment.

Love the Facetime function though. Especially when I can tether off my wifes phone and use it when out and about in a 3G environment. (the phone thinks its on wifi) I managed to Facetime my Niece on her iPad2 whilst out and about in London over New Year. Nice little trick I picked up off YouTube!

Siri could be better (and probably will be). All its good for at the moment is reading inappropriate texts out, which is funny!

What I will say though is - avoid Orange. I rarely get a good strong 3G signal. Yet my wifes is great with '3'. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I'd flog it and keep the 4 with the latest OS on it instead, I run the beta versions on my iPod 4G and they are great for betas Smile

Mrs has the 4 and compared to her friends at work that got 4s's she has no problems Very Happy

Following on from Noddy i find Orange great country wide as the phone now hops around to tmobile when down on orange signal as they are Everything Everywhere but maybe having a business contract with priority call routing helps Wink

Wifes on 3 and despite her initial worries of poor signal all over the place she took my advice and loves it as they fallback to O2 as well so its all good and she got a cracking deal on hers Smile

Bad battery ????

I went from an iPhone 4 to a 4s and originally had battery issues too, but all is good now due to new iOS version.

Most people don't know that there are two versions of 5.0.1 available for the iPhone 4s

Old one with battery issues - 9A405,
New one without battery issues - 9A406.

As I said, they are both version 5.0.1, and your phone will not think it needs to upgrade if it is on the lower build, so you have to force an upgrade. This is because it only checks version number and not build version.

Simply goto Settings, about, and check the build version, then if on older one, just make sure you have a full backup via iTunes, then hit the "Restore" button, and iTunes should download and install the newer build, then do a restore of your backup and your good to go.

Before I put the new build on, my battery would last a day if I was lucky, now it's at least 3 days, depending on use.

Everyone must check their iOS build version before claiming bad battery life. MY2007 Vogue SE TDV8 - Tonga Green / Sand

Hi Mike,

Were/are you still on the 9A405 build?

The 9A406 build is only for 4s.

I reckon that your itunes had already downloaded the 9A405 build and so it wouldn't look to download the new build because it too also only looks at the version number.

What you will have to do is find the downloaded iphone ios file and remove it, it's located here.
c:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\

and is called iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw

delete it.

NOw, when you start up itunes and do the restore as per my previous post, it will re download the new 9A406 build and install it.

Sorry I didn't make that clear earlier. MY2007 Vogue SE TDV8 - Tonga Green / Sand
