2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
1963 Series IIa Land Rover

A guy I know has emigrated to the States with his job (3 year minimum contract) and has had to offload a lot of posessions as a result! One of the things which hasn't gone yet is his SIIa SWB Landie, which is now sitting on the grass outside his elderly parents' front door, which is not where they would ideally like it to live!!

So, I've said I'll try and help to sell it for him. Having owned a SIII before, I'm sorely tempted but I know this will be one vehcle/one project too far for me (I've got two RRs on the drive, a sunny day car in the garage, MrsC's car and, er (counts on his fingers) 6 motorbikes, not to mention a new job which means I'm out of the country more often than I'm in it at the moment.

So I'm looking for inspiration as to where to sell this, and to get an idea what it's worth. EBay is always the last resort, but yes, it's that - a last resort really.

The Landy is a SWB SIIa, apparently ex-military, with a 2.25 petrol engine and a full canvas tilt. I have a couple of poor-quality pics of it. It sits quite high with slightly chunky tyres (but nothing outrageous). Apparently it's been MOTd within the last 12-18 months. On the down side, the nearside bottom of the bulkhead just below the door hinge has gone home, there is a largeish hole in the bulkhead between the cab and the engine, and I think the rear crossmember has seen better days, although probably not terminal just yet. Outriggers all good. Overall, given that it's nearly 50 years old, it's not too sad at all.

What do you reckon chaps? What could he get for it, and where best to advertise? I could sign up for some landy forums on his behalf but of course they don't usually allow noobs to advertise, which I quite understand.

Hmmm, Series 2's are anything from 500 quid for a basket case to about 4 grand if it's top notch. Nowhere near Series One money yet, and a 2 will be worth more than a 2A.

Depending on how bad the chassis and bulkhead are (not too good from what you describe) it's an expensive repair which makes it worth less than an old snotter which has a decent chassis and bulkhead.

I sold my beloved S2a last year, and part of me wishes I hadn't. But the facts are that keeping it as a bit of fun/spare car was costing me quite a stack of cash. It wasn't as if I could change the FFRR for something like an XFR cos the 2a wouldn't pull the caravan. well it might, but by the time we got there......... Laughing And the thing is they HAVE to be driven. If you leave them stand doing nothing, every time you need it something else is seized/broken/flat/leaking etc.

So quite a specialist bit of kit. Small market 'cos not many people could have them as a daily drive. Made smaller by the fact it needs work. then smaller still cos he really wants rid. About the one thing in it's favour is the tax exempt bit.

Probably not what your pal would want to hear but that's the cold hard truth. I can ask around if you like; PM me some pictures (or a link to some) and I'll tout it round my usual haunts.

Best

Dom

not being too silly but if he 'takes it with him' as an import into the states he may well get a fair amount of cash Very Happy

Well, worth a try. It's probably worth more than that but not much more in real terms... Graham

Something similar in this ad. Won't make the price and no mention of a rusty bulkhead. Lots of similarities though, no MOT, a bit grubby, rotten crossmember etc.

The one in this ad is prolly worth about £1200....ish. So take out 600 quid for a S/H bulkhead (inc fitting) and you're somewhere close. It's realistically a 500 - 700 quid motor. I'd probably want to pay the lower number if it's in Kent due to the cost of fetching it. If it was nearer I'd go the 700. No more though.

Looks dear to me. Shocked I might offer £80 for that as it's a hardtop.... Graham

2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

Graham, I suspect a "sensible" offer might snatch it. I really have no real idea what it's worth. Might look in LRO, just remembered that they have a selling guidance page. It's reasonably tidy really when you consider it's age - certainly better than my SIII which I sold in distinctly "needs work" condition, although it did have a 3.5 V8 fitted which I'm told are worth more than the trucks themselves these days! Got £650 for that fairly easily.

If anyone's genuinely interested then let me know. It's situated near Lamberhurst in Kent (not far from Tun Wells).

OK, these are the only ones I have. Sorry about the quality. The Landy was also covered in frost at the time which accounts for the apparent colour change on some of the panels!
