Problems with HDMI on my Plasma TV

My brother came over last night with his PS3, I wanted to see what a Bluray film looked like on my Samsung 50" plasma, as I don't yet have Sky+HD or a Bluray player.

We plugged it in via the HDMI cable and I get a message on screen saying "Mode not Supported". It's an issue with the TV not the PS3 unit as we tried it on my LG Plasma in the bedroom and it worked fine.

Has anyone else had such an issue with either PS3 or Sky+HD and how was it solved?

I tried all the TV menu's but there doesn't appear to be any way of editing the HDMI connections. I've just ordered Sky+HD and now I'm concerned that won't work either.

Anyone got any ideas? Discovery 4 HSE

How old is the TV? I have a 4 year old Panasonic and have never had problems with the HDMI so was wondering if it was older when the HDMI standard was being ratified. I may be off the mark.

Check the resolution set on the PS3 and the TV. It is probably set to something higher than your screen can handle. From memory, I think you can set it to do Auto Resolution. Also once the PS3 or Sky box is on and running, try using the picture resolution wizard via the resolution button. Be sure to disable 480i/p and 576i. These resolutions are not support by HDMI.

This thread may/may not help: http://www.hifivision.com/audio-video-cabl...error.html Have a look at AVForums - www.avforums.com. They are extremely helpful there and have dedicated forums for each manufacturer. Someone there is bound to have come across the error.

With the Sky+HD box, it has HDMI, Scart and Component outputs. Paul
