United States 2005 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
'ellow from The Colonies

Gents,

Just stumbled across this site. Fantastic! I'm a frequenter over at rangerovers.net and somehow didn't know FFRR existed until just the other day. Anyhow, I've owned a few P38s over the years and am now on my second L322, an '05 HSE in Zambezi Silver with Navy leather, piped Cream with the Lux interior package.

Glad to have found a site dedicated to the FFRR, as I've no need to read about RRS/LR3/LR4, etc...I've driven them, don't like them. Nuff said (although wifey does drive a Disco) Whistle

Glad to be aboard. I spend a lot of time on airplanes for my job, and with WiFi now being available in-flight, I have another forum to comb through and keep the monotony at bay Very Happy

Cheers all. Here are a few pix of my FF...

Welcome Aaron Smile

Nice looking motor and collection there Smile

We got my dad an old rusty MGB for his borthday last year with the intention of him restoring it but my mums health has meant it has sat untouched and now it looks like it needs a new rear and front shell due to rust Big Cry but the interior isn't too bad Smile

Thanks for the welcomes fellas.

kingpleb; yeah, a 'B will rot like its nobody's business, and certainly back there in its home country where it's always damp...

My 'B is the car I've owned the longest. Since university to be exact, which was plenty of time ago Embarassed but it's presently off the road in need of a clutch, and since the engine has to come out to change the clutch (who'd have thought???), I'm going to have the car completely redone as her teeth are getting a bit long Big Cry Cheers,

Aaron

The Cloud is a '60 Series II. 61K miles, factory A/C car and LHD. It wasn't originally white, some prat redid it about 30 years ago (although he did do a very thorough, high quality job) but I hate white Rollers....too much of the wedding stigma Rolling Eyes so it'll soon be returned to its original duo-tone livery of Shell Grey (which is RR speak for 'Silver') over Black Pearl. Beige interior is original and in excellent order.

The Series III isn't mine but a mate of a mate's. Would like one, but after having a '71 SIIA for a while, am not sure if I want another rig that puts you through the roof on every bump Wink although the full synchromesh 'box of the Series III is a big plus. Got tired of double de-clutching!

LOL on the seat pic, axle. That was shot after SWMBO drove it Laughing as I'm 6'-1" and would be through the windscreen!

On the MGB--it'll be kept totally stock. I searched for ages until I found the one I have. It's as original as the day it left Abingdon so it needs to stay that way. Too many tarted up B's around...at least in the US Rolling Eyes

For posterity, here are a few more shots of the Royce..

Mick,

Thanks mate. Baseball? Hmmmm...You mean basketball? Cool Unfortunately no youngsters at all yet, but once she convinces me to get rid of all these limey wagons, I suppose a couple may be in the works Shocked but I travel a ton for my job and I'd feel bad leaving her stuck at home alone all the time with children, so until I find something that'll keep me in town more, the kiddos have to wait.

As to cars; she knows the MGB is non-negotiable. It stays. I'll be buried in it. If I had to sell everything else and keep two (aside from the B, of course) I'll say it'd be the FFRR and a toss-up between the Turbo R and the Shad. The Cloud, while being properly elegant, is a bit of a chore to drive. I can see why it wasn't marketed as an owner-driver type car! The Shadow on the other hand, is a delight. Beautifully light steering (yet sharp enough thanks to rack-and-pinion), perfectly wafty suspension and that delightful split-level climate control system. The Turbo R, well....Sublime in every way, but still a bit of a firmer ride than I always want in a Proper Motor Car. I actually recently sold my '96 Mk. IV Turbo R to buy the '90 I have now, as although the '96 was faster and *better* in every way, the aesthetics of the earlier car please me more and the ride of the Mk. IV on the 17" rims was just a bit too harsh and crashy over bad roads. The '90 Turbo with the 15" rims and "balloon-like" tires, for lack of a better term, gives more of a compromise. Cheers,

Aaron

47p2; The Cloud has servo-assisted brakes with dual master cylinders as well. The servo is, of course, driven off of the gearbox and there is also a direct link to the rear brakes from the "rat trap" maze of linkages underneath the floor from the brake pedal back to the rear drums as a third backup system (after the #2 m/c) of sorts.

The brakes on the Shadow and Turbo R are the high-pressure hydraulic type, boosted by camshaft driven pumps in the vee of the engine. As my Shad is a Series II, RR made the second master cylinder redundant and relied on the nitrogen charged accumulators as backup. Same with the Bentley except that the accumulators can't be rebuilt on that car, you simply swap them out with new ones.

These, of course, are the respective systems that can drive one mad when sorting a Royce or Bent. But whatever, I love 'em. Wife thinks I am completely bat $hit, but then again, she DOES drive a Discovery so talk about the pot and the freakin' kettle... Rolling with laughter Cheers,

Aaron
