England

I've lived for a long time with the mantra "experience is the only genuine knowledge" along with "It's difficult the first time..."

If you own a FFRR you either have enough cash to not have to gain that experience or try things for the first time, or you don't and have to, at some point get stuck in.

I was in the former three years ago when I first got my FFRR, afeared of touching anything due to the apparent complexity, but with the help of others (this forum etc), the sight of the £95 "inspection fee" for just putting the car into a main dealer, a move away from main dealer to indie, and getting the right tools and diagnostic kit, I am now happy to do most things on the car myself, back in control, and cost of ownership has dropped, and I get more satisfaction from it (when it's on the road!) and the relationship grows. Sometimes I think I own one of those "rogue" vehicles - so fragile you daren't touch it without something breaking, but I find the FFRR to be quite robust all round.

When I see it in the drive, its smiling, when my wife sees it in the drive its snarling at her (no holidays or new outfits for you, I need a new airbag kind of snarl Smile )

I agree it would be great if it was as reliable as my MX5 (20 years old, one non start in 5 years), but the FFRR ticks the box in so many other ways, like others I can't see me driving/owning anything else now, driving or travelling in other cars only reinforces that feeling.

Get through the teething troubles, get out on the road, and start enjoying, whilst preparing for the challenges of FFRR ownership that lay ahead Smile .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Well that's not exactly true is it now!.......and if they hadn't? you may well not be driving such a beast of a car anyway!!

One thing strikes me though in all these discussions is the proudness of what is after all an English car and how strongly you'll defend it.........pitty that didn't happen years ago and maybe just maybe it may of remained in English possesion but would it of been a better car??...........I fear not
B.M.W. saw the potential in the car and bought it for a song! developed it a little more, then decided to build their own S*** in the X-series. Not enfringing any copyright patent stuff and realising the market potential with their own crap and now having something that could possibly challenge the Merdedes G-model (no chance) or their new M-classe of course relinquished Land Rover to it's current owners who lets hope make a good go of it!!

I think through my one interjection on the fact of being peeved off with this marvel of a car! and be honest with yourselves..............have you never cursed ya car at all? the sometimes steep costs when something goes wrong?.............of course you have!!

It's like women ya can't live with em and ya certainly can't live without em

Happy motoring or should I say tinkering.................whatever reason you own one...............have a nice day all

I just still don't get you.

I'm not saying they don't have problems, I've encountered an engine failure amongst other challenges, but my point is this. I don't knock Land Rover over these things because they're not responsible. Why?

Well I had a Land Rover 4.4, which suffered bad camshaft wear. Why don't I blame Land Rover? Well it was the same engine as I had in an E38 BMW 7 Series, so I blame BMW, rightly or wrongly.

Many people will suffer gearbox problems, is that the fault of Land Rover, or BMW who claimed that the gearbox was sealed for life. Pixel problems - BMW phenomenon. You get the picture.

I don't know who made your door cable, but I doubt it's Land Rover, and I suspect who every it is supplies many car makers, there's probably not a car out there that would be immune to the possibility of that cable breaking.

It's not like Land Rover are perfect, the front diff was their fault and responsibility and they dealt with it badly. Equally there are some software reflashes which they should supply foc which they don't, and they got it wrong on the batteries for the 2010/2011 cars.

But overall, they are fantastic cars, which don't go wrong any more or less than any German equivalent car. In my experience the car I had whilst built under German ownership was in fact more prone to problems than it's successor.

And the final thing, all of us continue with our Range Rover because we love them, if we thought of them as Censored heaps then I doubt we would still have them, that's probably what we don't get in your posts. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

You don't have to get me!!
but before you start to recite a multitude of problems on the Range Rover and may I add the list could go on and on read my posts a little more thoroughly.
I was merely pointing out the frustration and expense of repairs and the frequency of my particular circumstance and my opinion of the car, this is after all a forum or is it something else. Ease up lad.....
it's not a personal dig at you now is it Question are you possibly linked to RR

P.S. Responsibility lies with Land Rover and no one else.
A tin of soup from Heinz but the tomatoes are from spain, is the spainish farmer responsible then? Heinz put them in the tin!...........by the way I love Heinz tomato soup and I'm also partial to a Range Rover! Current stock:-

Yes I'm a customer, same as you.

No I don't have to get you, but I still think it's a bit odd to come on to an enthusiasts forum and whine about what a Censored car it is because a nipple came off a door handle release cable, but then maybe I don't know the litany of other issues you had prior to December when you first joined the forum. Either way it seems like a lot of fuss over a simple issue which could happen to any car! I'd imagine it would not take very long to fix, and the cable probably isn't much either. cables about 13 quid and only takes half hour to fit, that includes take the door panel off so theres no real need to moan about a minor problem at all.

The history of my case you don't know at all and that is exactly the point. Rolling Eyes
I'm on this forum for the same reason as you...........I too like the car and i will point out yet again in the most simple way I can so that you may finally understand!!!!
The amount of times my car has been in the workshop for one thing or another in a short space of time is a reason to have a little moan!! that is my way! wether it be a nipple or a Censored motor, it would be sad if we all thought the same way now wouldn't it.
Read the Censored post properly before passing comment or maybe even ask me a question?
the fact that it has to go into the workshop for the optic fiber cable loom (M.O.S.T.) be fitted and recalibrated I thought they may as well do the door too!! or is that the wrong thing to do?

and to the other wizz kid who passed comment and didn't really need to!! the cable I have seen on fleabay for 11quid plus postage but as regards half-an-hour to take of the panel and to repalce the cable and refit the panel.............well there you go...............thanks all the same!! but I'll have it done properly!

have a nice day folk I'm of fishing again!! Current stock:-

Can we please have a little calm here - the forum is not here for a rant and a rave, but to get assistance.

This site is good natured and helpful, and I intend it to remain that way Smile
