I had a right row with a local WPC plod about my short plates... She went back to the station to check with traffic dept and had her and her SGT ring and apologise as they are as i thought completely legal as there is no minimal size for width. Just so long as it has the same size gap as the bottom on the sides...

+1 this. Not worth the risk imo.

Craig, I like the look of the 'short' plates. I was thinking of putting this one on mine (I have it on retention at the moment) What did you do at the back - did you go short, or full size RR?

Unfortunately I have holes in the bumper where the original plate was fitted Sad

Would look better on here surely! Whistle

My rear plate is the same size as the front, just because i can!!! Having the holes in the front is a pain, hence why i have no holes drilled when i fitted the new bumper...

Must admit, would look better on Disco, that's what I used to have it on (and that's why I haven't put it on FFRR before now)

Could always be for sale, for a good offer Whistle

Do you have any pics of your rear with the short plate fitted? Thumbs Up

There is no law on width of plate but there is on size and shape of each letter or number AND there is a set distance between each one. Take ABC 123 D......The space between ABC has to be constant, space between the C and 1 is larger, 123 has to be constant etc.
There are minimun heights and widths for the letters which in turn dictates the minimun size of plate you can use. There is a set minimun surround area to the plate.
RR1 can go on a much smaller plate than ABC 123 D, but the gap around the letters, the visible plate, can be the same - size and height of letters MUST be the same. Also the manufacturers details MUST be on the plate or it is just as illegal as wrong size plate.
If anyone is anal enough to want exact size and measurements I will happily oblige. Laughing
And while Im here - and something that p****es me off ( cos I cant do it}, you can only have a black plate with silver letters on vehicles manufactured before 1973. Some folk think you can make any plate like this. 2006 MY Autobiography. With 'toys'
Honda ST1300 Pan European

Gone
Jaguar 3.0 SE X Type
Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird

TJF by the way for anyone who knows what that means.

as said above the letters and numbers must be a standard size and all number plates must adhere to british standard BS AU 145d which must be marked on the plate, along with the name and postcode of the manufacturer and the supplier of the plates. ... - .- -.
