Roof rails i Know but I cant find a definite answer

Ok I have just bought a FFRR MY08 & travel a lot to the Alps skiing & watching my son race, I have been using a Jeep Grand Cherokee which I fitted the Thule Aero bars to the roof rails to carry a roof box.

This roof box will be on & off the car a lot as we always travel with a lot of kit at least 6/7 pairs of skis, I need to know which is the best option as my Thule Roof Box Atlantis 780 & its big I think it would not work with a fixing in the front & middle locating area as some of the threads have recommended.

If I buy the LR OEM kit can I adjust the roof bars to any position/length in the rail system plus does anyone know what the cost is, I have seen this one on http://www.powerfuluk.com/products/range-r...-bars.html these look good & are possibly a lot cheaper that LR ones?? I dont mind the roof channels being there as its just makes life easier.

Plus I have a AUX socket for an iphone can some body recommend a good lead that can be used with an Iphone 4S to play the music as well as charge it.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I know I have a lot of questions, I cant wait to get the FFRR Bow down Mutt

I use Thule Aerobars on mine Thumbs Up just needed to update the foot pack as I already had the bars from when I had an RRS.

For the lead you mentioned, something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Aux-Cable-Do...1618wt_922

would be suitable, you then just need a cigarette lighter to USB adaptor, like this:

Hi Craig are they as good as the oem ones, I have emailed them as they are out of stock

Plus do the Thule foot plate fit directly to the channels as I don't want the ones that fit under the door seals

Thanks for the suggestions so far Mr. Green Mutt

Thule foot pack sits on the edge of the roof with a small bracket that goes under the door seal into the top of the door frame to clamp the foot pack down- I don't think that you can get them to locate into the fittings in the roof rails.

Simon,

Thanks for that as that rules them out as I had that system on my saloon cars & even with the rubber protectors it did scratch the roof etc & I would be using this a lot.

So its either OEM or the Powerfull ones Thumbs Up Mutt

@ Mutley: be aware that the cross bars which go on without the roof rails are different to the roof rail ones. They are NOT interchangable. Claude should be able to tell you if his are roof rail ones or not (sorry If I am stating the bleedin' obvious, but I got caught out by this)

NOt sure Mutley. Best ask them and have your VIN handy. I don't think LR do them any more but I could be wrong!

Mutley,
I was in the exact same situation as you. Do a lot of trips to the mountains for skiing. Bringing the families skies.
If you donīt like the type that goes under the door seal, the only solution is to get the roof rails and cross bars.
OEM or Powerful.
By using this you can easily adjust the cross bars so that it suits your box.
I bought the OEM from ebay.
The downside is that you need to brake the six "lids" on the roof to be able to mount the rails.
Only the cross bars will not be working for a roof box.
When i donīt carry the box i keep the rails and bars on, i like the look of that. I know some people donīt, it takes a way the clean look or something.
