I'm trying to rip a few DVD's for my son to watch in the back of the car. I've downloaded "Handbreak" which looks pretty good but every time I try and rip a DVD it says it cant due to copyright. Am i being stupid or is there a way to do it? I don't want this for making dodgy DVD's or anything like that just want to keep my son entertained in the back of the FFRR. DVD decrypter does the job for me. There's only been one or two out of a few hundred that it failed to break the copyright on. If the ripped .ISO image is bigger than 4.7GB, then use a program called DVD shrink which lets you take out extraneous bits like trailers and you can reduce the quality of the main feature to make it fit on a single layer DVD-RW. You'll also need some thing like "magic disc" which will let you mount the ISO image in a phantom DVD drive while doing the shrinking but its all pretty easily done. |

Or you could use double layer DVDs. I find Verbatim DVD +r DL work pretty well. They hold 8.5Gb. Allycraven, purpose of handbrake is to convert DVD to digital format for use on iPod/iPad computer etc, bit more portable than carrying around a stack of ripped DVDs |

I know what Handbrake is, but not much use if the OP wants to use the RSE system. Couldn't tell from his post if it was on a mobile device or the In built DVD. |

It's for both but the main reason is to put on my aftermarket TV tuner via USB pen. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

"Free-ist" way is to use Linux having installed the decryption setup and them use ffmpeg or mencoder scripts to rip to file. If you have the original DVDs (which you do ) then file size is not an issue, only quality Happy to advise if you want to go this route. .

DVD Shrink is another good free pc based ripper, I use it to take off alll the annoying previews and menus at the start of a film for the little one, great fro the RSE as the disk just starts at the beginning of the film rather than having to go through the menus. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

I use DVDFab to rip the DVD onto my hard drive and then Handbrake to convert it to MP4. DVDFab is free for ripping DVDs and $40 for Blu-ray discs. It's really easy to use - load the disc, it detects which part of the disc is the movie, click next and away you go. Once done, point Handbrake at the files on your hard drive created by DVDFab. Paul

MP4 files are not natively supported by the iPad/iPod IIRC, you need to use a program like handbrake to convert an existing MP4 file to a compatible codec or use handbrake to encode a DVD to a suitable format in the first instance |
