Kwik fit aircon recharge/refill

I've been meaning to do this for months, as my aircon was rubbish, but never got round to it for one reason or another.
Kwik fit are doing an aircon refill for £29 if you pay online. I booked up for 10.30 this morning.
The chap at the desk was not the employee of the month, he looked "confused" but we eventually agreed that I did have a 10:30 slot booked.
He told me to park car "over there", but I spotted the aircon machine and parked in front of it.
He turned out to be nice enough, but initially he needed a slap.. Why are people so poor at talking to customers??
Anyway.....
He put the hoses on the aircon valves and started to input the info on the aircon machine.
He asked me if it was a sport, I said no...
I then saw that he had clicked on classic.
I corrected him and he had to start again and entered range rover.
The chart said my car needed 510g of "stuff", so he clicked enter, said it would take an hour and walked off...
A timer came up on the screen with 20 minutes. It was sucking out the old coolant. It got to -50 on the dial and stopped.
Another timer came up and said "leak test" and started counting down. I noticed the -50 dial never moved, so I take it I had no leaks.
It then started to pump in new coolant. It got up to 415g on another dial and stopped.
The chap came back again and said maybe there was a fault as it should have put in the 510g.
I asked him if it was possible that my system was just full, and he said it probably was!
So he disconnected the hoses and asked me to fire up the car and test it..
ICE COLD. The best it has ever been.
So, yes I am happy with the end result, but the initial contact with them made me think that if I had not already paid I might have said forget it..
To be fair, they were all smiles when I was leaving.. Exclamation
I was told I should have this done every 6 months?!
So, well worth £29, I would use kwik fit for this service again, but I hope I get more than 6 months out of it! Previously..

True.... But I like the aircon to get rid of the damp and steam from wet bodies in my car!
I'm sure a lot of people on this site would say the aircon is more use in damp/wet weather than just summer time.. Previously..

Nice to see you championing the use of the A/C in winter Stan!

I had abysmal service from KwikFit. They didn't program the refill amount, so they just emptied the system. It was only when I queried this, argued about the numbers and trained them how to use their machine (which I'd never seen before) that they then actually filled the system...

As they say, you can make things idiot proof, but they just keep making better idiots!

6 Months my eye. I'd guess its a good job to do it every 5 years, but as the system is 100% sealed they are generally good for life until they spring a leak somewhere. Regular use is the key of course!

Yip, I've read on this site that regular use is the key..
Daveo, yes, I saw the bottles in the machine were full of "stuff" and both dials were indicating that 2 loads of "stuff" were being sent back to the car. I take it one is lubricant the other being the chemical added to the refrigerant gas..? Previously..

used to get my xantias oil n filter changed for £20 then £25 at the local national and would always sit in the lounge looking on at them struggling with a hot oil filter Very Happy

If your ac needs regassing in 6 months you have a leak.
My old Disco went for 15.5 years without recharging and the ac could still cause frostbite. The new owner still hasn't had to recharge it yet.
£29 was a bargain though.
