Got one about 6 months ago, was a bit sceptical to begin with but picked one up for peanuts on a trip to Houston and I have been very happy with it so far. I spend about 12 hours in airports/on planes and have 4 nights in hotels every week so get through a couple of books every week and it has been a godsend as the bookshelves at home were getting overloaded.

Some books very cheap, some no cheaper than bookshop. the latest releases are always pricy (close to paper prices), but within a year or two most are down to less than a fiver, with some down to 99p. Depends how selective you are about your reading material - there's always something available. One major plus for me is that I have been tempted to read (and enjoy) some books that i wouldn't have touched in print form just because they have been on a 99p deal.

I got the 3G version and have used it quite a bit - there is an web browser on it that's good enough for catching up on some news or doing basic google searches if your somewhere without Wi-Fi or can't be bothered to fire up your computer.

The US version of Amazon has a much wider chocie of books on offer, but the UK one is catching up fast and I've not failed to find an ebook version of anything I've been looking for yet on teh UK site. that said, you can open up a US account and register the kindle to it if you want to buy from the US store (you'll need a US contact address though...any will do), then change back to the UK account after the purchase has downloaded.

If your wife reads a lot, even if its just on holiday, then I'd reccommend it. The non-glare screen really does work well even in direct sunlight (not that we'll see any of that for a while now!)

If she read at night then i'd also recommend getting a case with in built LED light - it works really well - not cheap, but worth it...

Do you have a link for his case with LED-lights inside?
thanks a lot

@Paul

another very satisfied Kindle user can tell you that it is worth each cent
you can also convert (with calibre software) books from other systems to read in your Kindle

Not cheap, but I think was worth it. Got mine for $50 in the states.

Good quality cover and mine is showing absolutely no signs of wear after 6 months with almost daily use.

I've had a 3G one for about a year now and it's brilliant. Also look out for 'deal of the day' as you can get some bargains there.
One thing it encouranged me to do was read all the classics again (not something I had done since school) as most of them are free.

Don't bother with anything else but the 3G though. I've mates who got the cheaper ones and the ball ache of having to plug it in to download isn't worth the saving. Regards
