Paint-less Foundry Grey to Piano Black

After washing, clay-baring, polishing and sealing the FFRR paintwork today I decided to tackle the rear foundry grey cigar lighter area which was rather chipped and tired looking. My plan was to repaint it but not being a fan of foundry grey I was going to use a dark grey I had. I decided the best route would be to remove all the old paint and prime with a plastic primer then repaint.

I removed the plastic part from the FFRR and using 400 grade wet & dry removed as much paint as I could, then for the corners I used some cellulose thinners on a cloth, once all the paint was gone I used 1200 grade wet & dry to give me a smooth surface to repaint, however once at this stage I decided to try some Farecle G10 to remove the marks left from the wet & dry. Once I had removed most of the marks I proceeded to polish the plastic surface until I had a reasonable shine to the part.

It certainly looks better than it was, whether it will stay that way or whether the plastic will fade I'm unsure, but I will leave it over the winter and assess it next spring.

It's polished aluminium Mick, flash photography doesn't do it any favours.

Looks great. Just had the same thing done on mine, although mine have actually been painted to match the other Piano Black trim I had done earlier in year.

It certainly looks a lot better than foundry grey Thumbs Up FFRR TD6 HSE
