7S socket ignition live 2004 TD6

Hi All
I have genuine towing electrice (supplied by Duckworths).

However, when I plug into the caravan and put the ignition on it blows the fuse in the caravan marked (car)

I have had the caravan tested at my dealer and he said all electrics were fine.

I downloaded a copy of the 7S wiring chart and all seems ok apart from I only have one live ignition feed instead of two! and the permanent live is in place correctly.

I have checked the wiring (done by Landrover) and it seems all correct and fine.

Has anyone else had the same problem? Can anyone advise where the ignition fed live's are aken from?

Because of the fuse popping immediately the ignition is on I can only assume that the second ignition live is in facr going to earth on the car.

Look forward to any assistance

Cheers

The two ignition controlled feeds for the 7S socket are fused individually on the fuseboard in the rear drivers side compartment. Fuses 74 and 76, 15A and 20 A respectively. If you have only one feed chances are one is blown.
It's possible it could have blown in conjunction with the fuse blowing in the caravan.
It's also possible whoever wired the tow sockets on your car got it wrong by putting the wrong wires in the wrong connections.
The only way to find the fault really is to get a multimeter out and check each of the 7S sockets pins for earth and 12V +ve respectively.
As wiring the car tow sockets is a straight forward job with the wiring harness being preformed and simply plugged into the cars provided socket I'd also be inclined to have the caravan wiring double checked, starting at the tow plugs.
As you say you have a 12V +ve wire going direct to earth somewhere.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

The two ignition feed fuses are in place and intact.

The sockets were wired by Landrover so I can only assume it's correct.

Caravan was taken to the agents (Bailey agent) Saturday and all checked out fine.

The 12S socket has 2 earths. 1 permanent live, 1 iginition live. The reverse light is live and the correct time.

I will get a multimeter and have a proper sort. I tend to agree it sounds as though the relay has been wired incorrectly.

I will keep you updated! Thumbs Up 08 model TDV8 Vogue SE Rimini Red/ parchment. 04 TD6 Vogue Oslo Blue / parchment

i had problems with my towing electrics, fuses blowing etc until i fitted a genuine L/R kit for the FFRR. it just plugs into the rear of the car and away you go. you know that all will be well when it is plug and play.

these kits come up on ebay quite often of are not too expensive to buy. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

read this http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark1968/Towi...WiringInfo - scroll down to the bottom - maybe your car is wired for a pre-1999 caravan or vice-versa?

Hi

Thanks for all the feedback.

It is a genuine LR kit so plug and play.

Went over the electrics thoroughly both car and caravan.

The only thing I can assume is the caravan battery was so flat it was overloading the fuse.

I charged it up, replaced the fuse and it's now fine.

I didn't know about the cutting out of the electric circuit until I went to my Bailey dealer yesterday asking why all the lights went out when I put the ignition on! Whistle Embarassed

Only been caravanning 20 years and never knew that was standard from 99 on vans! Rolling Eyes

So, all is looking good so far.

Just got to get the tracker checked and then we're sorted! Thumbs Up 08 model TDV8 Vogue SE Rimini Red/ parchment. 04 TD6 Vogue Oslo Blue / parchment
