Tyre rotation - good or bad idea?

Just acquired 5 wheels and tyres (thanks Dan). What is the general feeling on rotating the tyres on a FF. My existing tyres seem to wear quicker on the outer edges of the front (don't know if that's normally the case). My old spare is a different size so has never been used except for emergency (this seems rather a waste of a good tyre).

I was thinking of rotating my new tyres every few thousand miles to even out wear, possible combining the spare in the rotation. I know this will mean my tyres will all require replacing at the same time and they are not cheap, but I don't cover very high mileage so they should last me quite a time. I know there are various theories on rotating tyres but I'm not that familiar with wear characteristics on the FF.

Any thoughts from long standing users? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

if you have the time and the tyres arnt directional then why not...the normal change is fronts to back when the fronts have gone to far on the edges.. ... - .- -.

Unless they're Craptinentals then they'll always wear the outside edges!

Mine are even across the tread, I was expecting some outside wear (my old P38 did that).

My AT 2's have done 38,000 miles now, with no rotation.

+1 even wear.... Also, there is very little difference in fron vs rear wear, so I can't really see much point in tyre rotation...

Mine wear on the outside edge but it depends on how much 'progress' you wish to make round corners and i live somewhere full of tight bends and roundabouts on the journey to work and to the PIL's Smile

Swapping them around will even out wear if your fronts get worn quicker but also means you'll need to replace the whole set when the time comes. Or just buy another set from Dan and sell the old set on as it seems the most economical route these days Smile

Hi CUE99T,

My brother in law is quite into his cars, much like myself and he has always praised the toyo tyres, saying it gives the best value for money next to much more expensive tyres.

Read some reviews online there will be quite a few i would imagine. I havnt experience them myself, the only thing that might make me through caution to the wind is looking at 22" tyres, but if overfinch use them then i prob wouldnt really give it a second thought.
