Well, having paid my deposit, filled in the change of keeper form so I can transfer my private plate, I have this morning got all the paperwork back from DVLA and part of that is the MOT for the Td6 I should be picking up Monday......

On the Advisories, we have ;

001 (all chassis) Vehicle structure has slight corrosion.

002 Front sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened

What shall I do.

I intend to get the car to my local Land Rover independant, who says bad rust isn't normal.

The dealer is ringing me back.......

Have any of you had this ?

It doesn't like bad rust or it would have failed, get some hammerite on it and my guess is it would be fine.
However negotiating a price reduction is quite another matter  Geoff

Front and rear chassis / sub frames do tend to "look" rusty on the older cars but are made of pretty hefty metal so you would have to have some bad corrosion to warrant an advisory. Nevertheless it passed its MOT. Whether you should pull out or seek a reduction will depends on how the seller described the car: "Excellent Condition" / "Problem Free" / "A1" / "Premium" might be some of the words, if used, that could get the seller squirming when you bring the lawyers in! Suggest have the issues checked first, or go the garage that did the MOT if feasible.

My FFRR subframes look rusty but my MOT'er, who is a stickler, has never had cause to mention it.

It's one of my jobs on the list to "get the Hammerite out" .

Most of the early FFRRs will have a certain degree of 'surface rust' on the underneath, you need to assess it to see if it is just surface or if it has corroded to the point of weakening the structure. My FFRR was a farm vehicle and well abused before I bought it, also lived in the Highlands of Scotland so loads of salt on the roads during the winter months, it has plenty surface rust but absolutely solid as a rock. I've never heard of any rusting out yet.

Suggest to also spray wax into all hollow sections, fender rims and any other rust prone area. Do make sure the car is bone dry and clean before you do it. Preferably also warm (garage with heater ??).

In the "old days" my dad used tectyl and bodysafe and then every year make it "soft' again using used hydraulic oil (we got it for free). All the cars he (and I) treated like that had not a spec of rust on them despite their usually advanced age (we always drove older cars due to not being very rich ).

These days the wax type corrosion protection is much better and doesn't dry out like the tectyl prodcucts used to. Also the use of galvanizing helps.

After the hammerite (again on a clean and dry surface, preferably warm), cover it in wax or other sealer type product and the car will be good for many years. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Well, the garage that the dealer used have quoted them £400 to fix whatever the MOT man didn't like. The dealer has told them to get on with the work..........

........though I would like to know what they are doing..........

Ask them what they are planning and then go down there and have a look while they are working on it (if you have the time).

Not as far as the MOT was concerned. Even then the "rust" was just advisory.....not a fail.

They have changed the cd autochanger, and the heater fan now works, and they replaced the drivers side front indicator unit.

They've got to change the batteries in the key fobs...........

Looks tidy on the top and inside...........

Garage have been really good to be honest.

I just want to know what needs to be done, and how they are doing it...

Just got back from the dealers............

The front sub-frame is being replaced, the tank and exhaust is being removed and its all being waxoyl'd.

So I'm a bit happier than I was yesterday.

Of course it'll be another week before I take delivery now........

I can confirm it has touchscreen nav, and is dark grey / black..........
