Facelift!

I'm just wondering if anyone else here feels like me that the original l322 front is a beautiful thing?

I get offended when i see what came afterwards described as a "facelift", and i feel that the new grill looks more like something a plasterer would put on the corners of my walls Very Happy

And while I'm on a rant, what was wrong with the side vents? - I think the originals are pure perfection...

I sometimes look at the original and think its best, but up close, It smacks a little of the designers being given seperate bits to design ... a bit like

here you go Mr A: - you do the lights, there is the space you have to fit it ... p.s. you cant see the rest of the car.
here you go mr B - you do the grill, here is your space, you cant see

then the chap gets the bits back and they bolt into place.

then when it comes to the face lifts, cause even see the whole car, the lights and grill seem more integrated.

so sometimes i like the face lifts.

I thkn overall, I like the 05/06 facelift time frame most. V8 or else ...

I like any unadulterated L322, and also particularly the old RR Classics - but hate the Metrocab RR - AKA the P38 Confused

Huh. And I love my RRC's, my P38, and I happen to believ that my 06-09 look is the prettiest L322.

And I'm worried what the l405 is going to look like...

Some very valid opinions, and everyone is entitled to their own taste, but to call the new look a "facelift" implies that there was something ugly about the original.

SteveMFr: i love the RR Classic and hope to acquire one soon. Stick up a few pics of yours sometime if you can please.

Original L322 looks great. Here's mine!

I've never seen any reason why people want to "upgrade" the looks to the newer model, but there's a long discussion on that somewhere in the archives Wink

I think its each to there own

I would consider updating my 04 to a face lift but not till i had owned the car a few years just to give it a lift like a nip and a tcuk but i know wha tu mean i do feel our style has more of a aggressive front end

It was a really excellent modern interpretation of the original car. Simple, elegant and dignified.

The 2006 facelift wasn't bad as facelifts go (awful Superchaved grilles excepted); the tawdry, flashy 2010 facelift ruined the car.

Has any SC owners here swapped the grille and vents to the non SC ones? .... If I ever do manage to get one I think I'd like to do that.

Trommel: you are spot on in your interpretation. I agree that the '06 change is certainly not ugly but it deviates from Reitzle's ingenious reinterpretation of the simplicity and functionality of the original Range Rover.

ric355: lovely car! I also wondered for a long time why there was a market for these "upgrade/facelift" kits until i was talking to a friend of mine from Canada who told me that the number plate system over there (and i think in USA) is such that the person gets the plate and moves it to whatever cars they own through their life - i.e. there is nothing on your car to say what year it was registered! It's not hard to see how this could encourage most people to want their car to look like the latest model. In Ireland we put the year on the plate to encourage the shallow amongst us to buy brand new cars, just to keep up with the Joneses. Very Happy

SteveMFr: I don't mind if the P38 misses the photo-shoot!

googsy2: I'm sure that offer by Katash is going to come back and haunt him!
