its debatable whether an oil change actually does any good or not...how many miles has the box done? if its going to fail then most go around 80/100k....personally, if its working ok i would leave it alone.. ... - .- -.

If you do decide to change the oil and I personally would, you need to change the filter as well and then change the oil again in a couple of weeks.

drain the sump, and refill with fresh ATF, run for 5-10 minutes and drain again, remove sump and change filter, refill with fresh ATF and if you are really keen you can drain and refill the sump for a third time |

Bought my latest FF this time last year with 93K, changed the gearbox oil (oil was black). Gearbox has just failed at 96K. From everything I have read if the oil hasnt been changed at about 50K, when Landrover should have recommened changing it, its only a matter of time before failure, average seems to be around 100K. Opinion is divided on wether its a good thing or not to change once the motor has done, or approaches higher mileages. For what its worth I believe lubrication is good and would do the same again.

yes, it does make you wonder if draining the oil empties the galleries, thus causing it to run momentarily dry - thus goosing the box a few miles later! maybe thats why LR say sealed for life...perhaps they knew there was an issue with draining and refilling. Afterall, its not in their or a LR main agents interest to skimp on servicing or do themselves out of service items by advising sealed for life without good reason... |

Surely the damage would be done when it was first built and filled if that was the case |

it could depend on how its filled and primed at the factory, and if this specific process is repeated when the box is drained and filled. |
