Radio crackle

Guys and gals

I've done a search and couldn't find anything on this so I hope I'm not repeating an old question!!

When I'm listening to the radio and I put the heated rear screen on, the radio crackles continuously until the screen is turned off or goes off. In fact, it's so bad I can't hear anything on the radio at all!

Does anyone know what causes this and what, if anything, can be done to resolve it!!?

It sounds like the amplifier unit isnt earthing correctly and/or is going faulty.

I've just had a thought! I was having problems with the remote park heating, it appeared to me that the remote wasn't communicating with the car. I understand that the remote park heating system uses the radio aerial to receive the signal.

Now I have a problem with the rear screen being on and receiving a decent radio signal.

So, could this mean a new aerial is required?

Anyone with better knowledge than me who has any thoughts please feel free to correct me or agree with me!! Smile

Green, I believe that the park heating uses the tv ariels which are in the rear side windows.

Using my heated rear screen causes some interference on FM but my heating elements are gubbed! Previous owner seems to have allowed things to rub of sections of nearly all the heater elements so nothing happens when you press the button except for a little interference on the radio Big Cry

I am going to try and repair my elements with some 'electro connector' and hopefully this will resolve both my issues...

Simon

You are indeed correct that the park heating uses the TV aerials in the side windows, so I have no idea why I said the radio aerial or why I even made the link between the park heating and radio! Stupid boy Green!!! Embarassed

So, as has now been said twice, a new amplifier!! Marvellous!! Sad

Sorry to bring up an old subject, my radio has recently started crackling when I turn on rear demister.

Did you solve your problem? Was it the amplifier? Or anyone else out there have this problem? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Long time ago now, but I ended up replacing the rear screen - fixed the crackling and also meant that the screen demisted as and when desired

On my old Westminster I had to replace the rear screen.

Bill Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I had this problem on my L322. Dog scratched the heating element and made the radio crackle. I claimed on my windscreen cover for "glass damage" and they paid up!
