In a couple of weeks we're off to the south of France for a week in a lovely villa, after that we're spending a week roaming Europe. This will be the first time I've done it from the UK and back rather than flying out and hiring a car.

Here's a list of our destinations, anyone been to any of them already and know a few things to look at while we are there or on the way? Any other USEFUL tips greatly appreciated

Drive on the right side of the road!

Never stop in Belgium (or remember to take some loose change to the toilets in services or the cleaning lady mafia won't let you in). Belgians are great people until they get behind the wheel of a car!

Don't forget your Hi-Vis vest for France.

McDonalds serve beer.

Buy a second pair of beem benders for your lights as they always fall off (don't know if RR's have adjusters for this though).

Only ever driven in Europe as an A-B journey (usually to Germany) so don't have anything else that will help.

if you have xenon headlights,undo the round cap where your hid bulb is and feel inside,there is a white slide bracket that goes up and down,this is the switch to change your beam pattern to drive legaly on the right side in europe....

Whitesox - I have already practiced this! Although, mine's not white, it's black , which isn't helpful if you're doing it in the dark!

* If you're taking the tunnel, watch out for the height restriction bar which is set at 1850mm, height of a FFRR is 1820mm ( still managed to 'remove' the GPS aerial ).
* Spare Euros for speeding fines, remember speed limit drops in the rain ( always get caught out ). Only speed at night.
* French tend to stare at FFRRs, not sure they get it ! Be prepared !
* Don't stay in Monte, we always stay at the Vistapalace hotel overlooking the bay and get a corner junior suite.

I cant go on the Euro Tunnel because I run LPG - but I can take a campervan with two great propane bottles in it... 

You must drive into St Tropez and have a coffee and a crepe by the port - the place is next to the tourist info centre and has red Canopies. Some of the boats are impressive. Also a walk around is great. Port Grimaud is ok as it is man made. Also must take the mountain roads just outside Cannes - have a Coffee in the Carlton. Although Monaco is great some of the villages outside like Menton etc are worth a visit. As you leave some of the villages and start heading out along the coast roads it is good to stop and have a look from high up down to the ports - Menton i think ?

Also stay away from the concrete barriers as not very forgiving!!!

European motoring kit

Before starting your journey be sure to pack a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, warning triangle, headlamp beam reflectors and spare lamp bulbs. These are required by law in many countries and are advisable in any case

European Breakdown Cover and Travel Insurance

Green card

You obtain an International Motor Insurance Certificate (green card), from your motor insurer. It is important to check with your motor insurer or broker what cover you have abroad as a Green Card may not always be issued.

EHIC form

You obtain form EHIC located at the back of a leaflet called Health Advice for Travellers (Ref T6) which can be obtained from main post offices.
You must produce this form if you or your family are taken ill or require treatment when you are abroad
