I think there's a thread on here about this already but I'll just give you all some feedback re: Warranty Direct as a result of my contacting them this morning.

1. Speakers in rear doors not working - not covered audio equipment, fair enough I should have noticed it wasn't mentioned on the policy - although it isn't an "exclusion".

2. Parking sensors not working, covered if ECU is at fault, not covered if it's the sensors, discussing around what if it's the wiring didn't go anywhere. However, I would have to pay for the diagnostic work which would ONLY be re-imbursed if it was the ECU.

3. Steering wheel tilt playing up. Specifically mentioned in the policy doc but again the advice to me was grey and if they decided not to pay up then again any diagnostic costs fall on my ever thinning wallet.

I then asked for a recommended Independant in my area - they recommended Halfords Autocenter.

I am not making a comment or a critisism just doing to them what they say they'll do to me - all calls recorded and may be shared with a third parties - so as it's good to share here you go  Geoff

The warranty was obviously well worth the money in my opinion

I took out breakdown cover with them, it was about £80... they tell me I'm covered for everything the same as the main warranty, but only if the car breaks down first... If a warning light comes on, not covered, if car stops and AA tow me to main dealer then I'm covered. Got it mainly for gearbox and engine to be honest and I hope I never need it!! Previously..

I am sceptical of 3rd party warranty companies paying out. All the reviews I have seen is that they find some way to weasel out of paying. Paul

I went with Warrantywise purely on the recomendation of Gaz as he does them with his used cars.

Again, mainly for the drivetrain but I took the Platinum cover which is supposed to cover all.

Hopefully I'll never need it but the recomendation of a site sponsor and someone who's reputation could ride on their service I didn't hesitate.

I use them because I feel they are the best of the after-market crowd and offer a fully comprehensive Range Rover "Platinum" contract.

However I definitely cannot guarantee they will always pay up so please don't blame me if they don't!

I rang a few franchised dealers after buying my rangie and the dealers told me that they will not deal with warranty companies because of the amount of problems they have had with them!!

It was the same with my BMW and I discussed this problem with Warranty Direct. They told me that I could pay for the repairs on a credit card and claim the money back! But I thought they had to authorise the repairs in the first place following a report/conversation with the dealer. But if your chosen dealer refuses to even speak to them, what do you do!!

Your well scr3wed if you have a car over 100k though as no-where will touch it with a barge pole, and what happens if you buy the car on 99,999 and warranty it and then drive to the shops and back, is the warranty then useless??!!

I've decided to just work shed loads of OT instead and as well as save for a new house, keep FFRR milage low and keep pennies/pounds for repairs and work on as much as i can myself

I've gone with Warranty Direct . . . . . however, over the first year of ownership the car has been spot on ! - not that I'm complaining

The specialist where I have my car serviced have three customers who own FF's with the same warranty. WD have never refused to pay up for those owners.

I guess it's a lottery and "you pays yer money - you takes yer choice"

This was my point when I spoke with Warranty Direct.

They would only cover year on year and once over 100,000 miles the level of cover diminished rapidly.

Warrantywise, however told me that once the warranty is taken out and the vehicle maintained properly via a vat registered garage there were no upper mileage restrictions (I'm sure if someone did 50k miles a year there would be). Their response to me was that as the car was within the criteria at inception they stand by their word. If I took out a 1 year and the car went over the 100k miles within the year it would be a different story.

Hence why I took the gamble and went for the 3 year.

I'm with Kingpleb and decided to self-insure. Worst case scenario I estimated at about half the purchase price (I will not spoil your sleep tonight by describing this scenario). Above that the warranties might not pay out (no, I haven't checked all of them). And if the repair cost was that big I would "break" the vehicle.

Also, at least one of the warranties I looked at was not transferable to a new owner if a claim was made (in the small print).

Betterment means that some reduce the claim if the vehicle mileage is greater than 60K (is a FFRR "run in" at 60K?).

Other "gotchas" like this business about the vehicle having not broken down if a warning comes up or it fails an MOT, and diagnostic tests not being covered leave me cold.

I costed self insurance at £220/month, and if the worst doesn't happen that's a few quid towards the next one.
