It always intrigues me just how you can get more BHP and more MPG with a remap |

afaik there are two types of mapping, one for more power and the other for more mpg...each map is individually tailored to one or the other.. ... - .- -.

you can get it in between the both so you can get both mpg and bhp |

thats one thing a map does it makes the gears kick in differently for mpg and for power..for instance for the mpg map the higher gears kick in quicker so you use less fuel.. ... - .- -.

Rather than a remap, what you could do is get your cats removed! This could give you a power boost and better mpg!

You won't get a massive boost in power. The theory is basically correct - the RON rating of fuel refers to its ability to resist pre-ignition. A higher RON fuel allows the ignition to be advanced which can help the engine generate more power, but two things to consider: (1) The effect will be virtually nothing without changes to the induction and exhaust system, and (2) if you remap for 100 RON fuel then you need to run on 100 RON fuel all the time, so if you switch back to petrol you'll lose power and if it's 95 RON then probably get pre-ignition under high loads which will damage your engine. At best I'd say it'll be worth 5-10hp on a cool day and it's not worth it. You won't even notice with an auto box. It's a different prospect for a turbo engine as you can just increase the boost and chuck more fuel in for a remap, and also advance the ignition for higher RON fuel but you're still stuck with that rating of fuel post-mapping. A remap will eliminate flat spots or remove restrictions that have been inserted for efficiency or emissions reasons, but these things will just make it use more fuel to deliver more power. Practically speaking you can't have both more MPG and more power at the same time (unless you change the design of the engine!). |

The only real way to do this with log is a better induction kit, and he cats ripped out then the remap |

Remaps can, and have been debated until the cows come home.
