On the cusp

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some quick answers to a couple of questions. After 2 months I am on the cusp of buying a full fat RR (I went from nearly getting a new sport to an evoque and settled on the mans choice). I am about to pull the trigger on a 2007/56 Vogue SE with a round 65k miles on it. I also have a Lexus GS450h so had a couple of questions.

- The car is not from a range dealer its from another franchise so the salesman has openly said he aint no expert. the car apparently has been serviced recently(ish) need to get confirmation of this chasing it up. On start up on the dash it said Oil Service needed. I am not familiar with RR's is this literally just an oil filter change required or a minor service.
- The other question is more of a general one - with my Lexus after a service for a whole yea 6-8k miles i dont need to top up the oil or coolant or anything like that dont need to check it really (this from me knowing from experience) - is that the same with RR's or do they need top ups.

Sorry if I have askes some basic stuff but any answers would be very much appreciated. RR's are so pimped. Like I said to the salesman you dont hear 50 cent rapping about driving an Audi.

thanks

Thanks in advance

Hi,

tbh its a bit like your luck of the draw with an RR. sometimes people buy one with full service history etc etc and they have a string of problems and some buy them and they are flawless.

The oil service from what i know from a main dealer may cost you 300 pounds depending on which one it is which is resonable (200 from an independant) nothing to worry about.

As for oil etc, I wouldnt expect to have to check it full stop, i might do routine checks however I wouldnt expect to do them. I would keep an eye out for coolant/leak on driveway over night and also the temprature gauge. if these are ok the rr should go for a while without checking no problem.

I am a fairly knew RR owner (3 months) so hopefully someone else should come along and provide so more experienced information.

hope it helps

I doubt checking the oil/coolant will be the biggest worry you have with FF ownership but this should form part of standard maintenance and upkeep of any vehicle anyway.

Also, if you're about to "pull the trigger" on a pimp mobile for blasting your hip hop, rap or dub step from while running on 24's please look elsewhere..... You'll get an escalade for similar money... Neutral

Yeah the 50 cent reference was from a friend of mine I was considering a Q7 or a RX400h and he said the line about 50 cent implying that they are every vanilla cars.

I am just worried a bit as my Lexus just works but reading teh forums geting all these nightmare issues with RR but then thats what forums are for i guess!

If you look around this (and other forums) you'll see lots of people have lots of problems, but as a relatively newish convert to the brand (almost a year now), once they get under your skin, that's it!
Some people have horrific problems, but "touch wood" I've had the very few, and even they have been minor issues, so don't be put off by the stories you hear.

Guy in my work has a Lexus 4x4 and everybody overlooks it when the 5 RR's are parked anywhere near it!

If dealer says it has just been serviced but you get the oil service light / indicator, it could just be that the workshop didn't reset the service mode. (My indie forget this once too). Best to check the records and invoices for the car to justify the claim it was done. .

Must admit that when i was looking for a replacement for my D3 i looked at Touaregs, cayennes,MLs,commanders etc and yes i could have got a lot newer (and some would say more reliable) car for my money but as was pointed out to me

Sorry to go on about it - but everyone keeps mentioning flaws. I know the RR is the king but is it really that bad? Is it worth me paying a bit more and getting an approved RR or even getting an extended warranty form warranty direct.

They're not 'bad' in any sense. Just don't expect German build quality or reliability. I would always always get a warranty - it will help you so much when inevitably something will go wrong. On the older ones things are very expensive when they go funny!
