Mubarak is gone

Another tyrant (albeit a very quiet one, but one with the most ruthless and cruel secret police) has gone. Just heard that a Swiss bank has frozen what they reckon could be $70 billion of his assets - enough to pay Egypt's foreign debts several times over! Who next, Ghadafi? 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? The Forbes list could be a joke - and Bill Gates just a mildly wealthy guy...

As I write this a week later - yes. Laughing
Wonder how much in assets they'll have to freeze when he's gone. If.

A good friend of mine manages the assets of several 'reasonably' wealthy people - he has about half a dozen clients that keep him sufficiently busy and paid over the year. (so were not talking people with asset values like Bill Gates here but they do have a bob or two more than me!)

We had a chat about the 'rich lists' a couple of years ago - from what he could pick up from the circles he operated in, there were 30 odd individuals who weren't on any of the lists and whose wealth was greater than that of Gates et al. Although some of them had assets within similar regions of those at the top of the rich list there were others whose assets dwarfed Gates'.

Always makes me wonder how accurate these 'rich lists' actually are.

I once went to give a quote for an alarm system at a big manor a few years back for an accountant who exclusively dealt with clients that had over £50m. There was a brand new DB7 outside that he got as a gift off a client for helping him sort his finances.

That's a difficult one, could be Assad, could be Saleh.

I personally love it when a horrible dictator comes to a sticky end. I'm not a violent person, I don't agree with the death penalty, but for war criminals and dictators, their crimes are on such a big scale and their guilt not in doubt, the worst forms of medieval death seems appropriate.
