19's Fitted but think i will hold on to my 20's

Got the 19's fitted today , but after driving about for the last couple of hours i have to say i prefer the 20's …….

I would say 19's come into their own as off road tyres but as road tyres there is a lot more road noise and a firmer harsher ride than my old 20's ,,,,,,,,

Anyhow 20's are away to get re powder coated Thumbs Up

Mick, check the inside of the spokes etc for pitting, I had my wife's cars rims done by him a while back and on 1st inspection they looked great, but when I looked closer they weren't good and I eventually had them re-done after much arguing.... Mad

Is ESP still run by Trevor....? Had wheels done by him 10+ years ago and they were superb, think it was only £20 a rim at the time..... Rolling Eyes

Yes Paul, Trevor is still running ESP, I also had wheels done by him many years ago and the finish was superb, sold the car 5 years after having the wheels done and they still looked new.

Since then I have tried Chameleon in Renfrew and I wouldn't go back to them, their work was some of the worst I have ever seen and when I took a wheel into the tyre fitter he was shocked at the state of the inside rim. I've also been to Powdertec in Kinning Park and their work was so-so, but a year after the refurb there is signs of something not quite right.

Another I tried was in Thornliebank Ind Est, the job was ok, looked a little heavy and as the car was sold soon after I don't know how they have lasted.

Speaking with trevor today I was saying about finishes and I didn't want a sparkly finish on my wheels, he said that is only as a last resort, yet Powdertec always recommend it, just laziness on their part I guess.

19" wheel price at ESP is £45+VAT without tyre fitted and £55+VAT with tyre

Wish I hadn't asked now John.... i had one of my wife's cars wheels re-furbed (again.... Brabus aluminium wheels with 35 profile tyres don't like Glasgow roads it seems) at Powdertec only last month.... Big Cry

My mate got his alloys done at Chameleon a few months ago and they still seem to be holding up ok, I have heard they are a bit hit and miss though.....

Think I'll go back to Trevor in future then, don't like that part of the city but his work is superb....

Thanks for the advice/reply...... Thumbs Up

Mick,

The 19" cannot be a harder ride with same tyres at the same pressure. The increased Side-wall acts as a cushion and increases the damping effect.

Either:

1. The new tyres are harder compound
2. The Pressure in the 19"'s are higher.
3. The Pressures in the 20" are lower....
