I'm no expert, but I'd imagine it depends on a number of factors such as spec, number of miles driven, etc etc, as well as some real unknowns, such as what will happen to L322 values when the L405 arrives, for example when the new BMW 7 series Bangle version arrived, the older models value temporarily went up since it became more popular than it's younger brother due to the controversial styling.

Very approximately, for a well cared for example with low-average miles I would guess... 1yr old - about 20% - 25% less than the original retail price - the VAT element being a large contributor to the loss in value. 2yr old - about 30% - 35% less (maybe 40% if less popular colour or spec - or - revised engine or spec since being released) 3yr old - about 50% (In very good condition but no longer within warranty) Assuming the average price of a desirable 3yr old FFRR to be approx £35000 (£40000 max) by this time? - I would guess a continual depreciation of about £5K a year over the next couple of years |

If I could afford to buy a new Range Rover and then look to buy another new car 1,2 or 3 years later I wouldn't imagine I'd care about depreciation!! FFRR TD6 HSE

I thought it worked out that for the first year or two they lost circa £1000-1500 per month and then it slows a little bit??

Us Scots were still Brits the last time I looked!! As for the original question, I would think that regularly buying new is the most expensive way to own cars no matter when you change them. Although some cars will buck that trend because of tight supply/long waiting lists - buying a new Evoque right now would probably not lose you that much over the next year or so. I used to work for IBM and they kept their company cars for exactly 3 years and 10 months before replacing them. You can bet they had rooms-full of people working out the optimum change time. |

cheaperst way to own a RR and have good reliability is to buy at 12 months old and run it for 10 years. That way you get a fresh vehicle, the balance of the manufacturers warranty, and if you keep up to date with FLRSH you will also benefit from an element of after warranty care, i.e. LR will look sympathetically at certain out of warranty claims. If you change your vehicle every 2 or 3 years you are chucking dealer profit down the pan - unless you buy private. |
