Tyre Question

My SC is currently running 255 50 20 Continental tyres as per OEM. The front ones are OK but the rears have been on the front and have the edges fairly well scrubbed, plus I have just found a screw in one of them

Spoke to my mate who has an alloy / tyre business and he can do me new Continentals for £240 each including VAT (dear tyre !)........but he can get me TOYO Proxes ST's for £140 each including VAT - nice looking tyre as well

Do you reckon that I'll be OK putting new Toyos on the rear and getting the last mileage out the front Continentals ? They'll still be the same size, plus the rears at the moment are quite a bit more worn than the fronts so there should be much difference in rolling diameter.......I know that in reality I should keep all four tyres matching but having just replaced the battery and taxing it this month....... Get all four TOYO Proxes ST's as soon as you can afford them. THe ride on the proxes is great as is grip so you will not be dissapointed.

The contis scrub far to easily for a £250 tyre leaving great inner tread but scrubbed outers - rip off in my opinion. Twisted Evil

Thats exactly what happened to my contis - edges are scrubbed but tyres still have about 4.5mm tread Evil or Very Mad Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

Personally I would never mix brands / tread patterns.

It's less of an issue on a FFRR than a sports car but ultimately one set will give up grip before the other and the car will handle in an unpredictable way.

Plenty of people do & 99% of the time you will be fine - I'm just funny that way having learnt the hard way in an Impreza.
