What's this for?

The red LED type thingy sitting on the dash, near to the windscreen- what does it do? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

It's the Solar Load (sunlight) Sensor.

It detects the amount of sun/thermal radiation and adjusts the HEVAC accordingly.
