My test drive in an Evoque

Here are my thoughts on a test drive in the Evoque

I went to the Here and Now event at Beadles in Sidcup last Sunday. I was considering an Evoque Pure manual as a company car through Lex.

Beadles had the following cars in display:

    - Evoque Coupe Pure - I felt the leather in here was a bit cheap (reminiscent of the leather used by Volvo) and spoils the quality of the car. Perhaps it was just the grey? Being a cheap leather is good for kids though
    - Evoque Prestige - nice interior - very close to the full fat
    - Evoque Coupe Dynamic - again, nice but the mixed colour interiors were a bit too bling for me
    - Evoque Coupe Dynamic Plus
    - Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux

They had three cars available for test drive. All were Prestige spec from memory (a petrol auto, a petrol auto and a manual diesel). As I am considering this as a company car, I test drove a Prestige Coupe manual diesel.

Getting into the car is a little weird for me after driving a big car for two years. I felt very cocooned sitting in the drivers seat and the roof line felt a little bit forward (if that makes sense). With the full fat car having a tall roof line, you don't really notice it. The interior on the Prestige is very nice and is on par with the Windsor leather in the full fat. The seats were very comfortable.

The car drives really nicely. The manual gearbox is pretty smooth and light. The course was a mix of local and A roads. The cabin was pretty quiet. At 70 mph I didn't find much noise from either the door mirrors (saw a couple of reports about this) or the motor.

Despite a nice drive, I came away thinking - is this right for me? For me, the answer was no. The car feels special and is well made but it lacks that sense of occasion that the full fat has. Also the missus realised just how much space we have in the full fat, especially with number 2 on the way (sometimes you have to try something different to realise how good you have it if that makes sense).

The Here and Now event was nice and the Evoque is a nice car, just not for me.

If anyone interested, they are giving away half day Land Rover Experience vouchers as part of the Here and Now event.

EDIT: correction of non-existent model Laughing thanks Drakes Paul

I'd like to try a "petrol diesel" and see how it performs. Is this designed so that you can't put the wrong fuel in it. 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
2005 4.4V8 (M62) Bonatti Grey/ Parchment interior - gone
1998 4.6HSE Blue/ Cream interior (can't remember exact colours) - gone
1977 White - gone (should have kept)
