The Old Bill's New Toy

Was reading in the Auto Express, Awaiting Home Office Approval , The Company Truvelo have brought out a new camera with Infra -Red laser technology allowing officers to work in pitch black conditions.

It can identify a car's number plate from up to 100 metres , and measure it's speed from a distance of 1,800metres .....

Sneaky or what ........ ====================================

"Open Mike Night " sounded like a lot of fun until i found out i was going to an Autopsy

So someone will be selling an Infra-Red laser detector now for £600 that you won't know if it works or not until you get the summons in the post!

I wonder if you point super bright Infra-Red LEDs at your number plate, would the reflection prevent this system from seeing it. It wouldn't be that obvious to the naked eye.

Maybe as you speed past them, mount the kerb and squish the Censored !?

100M is a bloody long way away, they will see you way before you've seen them!

Most "active" camera detectors detect radar and laser so this should already be picked up right?

does anyone know what the device is that sits atop some police cars now that looks like a radar gun pointing backwards?

When I saw it, it looked like they were trying to zap traffic behind them the sneaky lowlife gits. Discovery 4 HSE

Speed detector plus video cam on their BMW's , That's what the Traffic Cops use on certain vehicles without arising too much suspicion to the vehicle occupants . when they are running a vehicle check .

I got done 3 years ago dead of winter middle of the night, in pouring rain - absolutely pitch black. The officer was using a laser gun.

I have been told countless times since then that he shouldn't have been using it at night, through his windscreen or in heavy rain - and especially as I was 100% positive I wasn't doing anywhere near that speed - just pulled away from a roundabout up a very very long hill.

He said fine if you dispute the reading either take the fixed penalty or I'll see you in court. Should have taken the court option, but the £60 fine was a fraction of the earnings I would lose for a day spent in court, and who would doubt an officer of her majesty's police force in court - I took the fine...

ANPR - Automatic Number Plate Recognition AKA Big brother is watching you (even when he's parked up scoffing doughnuts! Very Happy )

It makes for easy policing. Coppers used to have to have a "nose" for dodgy motors, now they could be a plastic pig (PCSO) with 2 weeks training and an ANPR. They just wait for the computer to make a noise when a dodgy car (according to the computer) drives past, they take their snout out of the Take Away and pull said car.

Question: With all the money spent on technology to catch motorists, is a similar amount spent on technology to catch more serious criminals? (and before anybody representing the rozzers comes on here and says that serious crimes are often detected while nicking drivers - It doesn't wash with me!)

Actually- it does mate. You'd be surprised how many "real" crims have been taken out of circulation by a mere roadside stop.

We don't do ANPR days for the sake of Censored off motorists, contrary to what the great british public think. We have the intel up front on who's driving what and what he is likely to be carrying, hence most of our ANPRs are with armed support. Come and spend the day with us next time we do an ANPR day. Bring your nappies with you though, cos on nearly every one we do, someone always produces a handgun! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Wimps! I prefer to use my Samurai sword against highly trained armed policemen! Very Happy

Noddy, you're on! It would probably be a serious education, although I suspect that I may end up locking myself indoors afterwards and never venturing out again without a bodyguard (AKA Organic Sandbag Smile ).

Anyone know how much the factory armour option on the FFRR is? Smile
