This vehicle has a full dealer service history from new...should i stay away or (provided its of value) buy it?

The fact it has a dealer service history and 1 owner from new im interested in buying this vehicle.

Whats everyones thoughts....what should i be looking for on inspection?

Hi Barrie, as I said on PH, don't let the mileage put you off, especially since it's got the history, though check exactly what is meant by full main dealer history, i.e. check what intervals it's been serviced at, and what's been done. I'm aware of a Supercharged range rover which has done over 170k miles on LPG, and over 200k in total. No problems.

If checked with the dealer, It's been serviced on the button up till 137k and its now on 139k.

Do you reccomend an LPG conversion for the Supercharged?

What should I be looking for when i inspect the vehicle as far as driving, interior and exterior are concerned?

That is high mileage for the box to have gone on the original oil. If you do buy it, a gearbox oil change is a must. They are sealed for life. Life = the length of the manufacturers warranty.

Various suspension bushes will have already been replaced - probably 2 or 3 times by this mileage. So listen out for any clunks or knocks when going over bumps. Even the harshest of bumps should be silent - take some speed humps at speed on the test drive to check.

LR Service intervalls are loooong, this isn't great. But check the condition of the oil, is it black? It should be golden, by the time it's black - it's stopped working.

Ask that the engine be COLD when you visit for a test drive. Lift the bonnet, check that the engine is indeed stone cold and then start the car, listen for any clatter, any noise that goes after a second or so indicates that the oil pump is worn. If the engine is warm, then are they trying to hide something?

The SC has it's own oil supply & reservoir. The manufacturer has no service schedule for this, nor does Land Rover. When it fails you replace the SC. That being said, I've no idea when you would expect a SC to fail, but will they really sit in the same oil for 200,000 miles??

These arent things to put you off the car, but they are things that might make you want to adjust the price! 

LPG? Depends on mileage, and how long you're going to keep it. Some also say that it's highly risky on this engine, however I did it before, and I'll do it on my new S/C (after I driven it for a while to check it out).

As to what to look for, I'd say the usual, check that EVERYTHING electrical works, including the RSE (rear seat entertainment), lumbar supports, steering wheel adjustment, etc etc. When driving, the gearbox should be nice and smooth, brakes should bite well. There should be no knocks or bumps from the suspension, look out for any shimmy at 40-60 mph.

If you can get the car on a ramp check the underside for corrosion, there'll probably be some surface corrosion, use it as a bargaining point then get it waxoyled. Bodywork should be corrosion free, pay attention to rear tailgate, and window trims.

Interior, will probably have wear to steering wheel and drivers door bolster, not an issue really, only to be expected at this mileage. There'll probably be wear around the window switches on the drivers door too, you can replace the surround with a piano black one which'll look much better if you have piano black trim. See threads on here for refurbing steering wheel, and drivers seat.

Ideally you want the parcel shelf, they can cost £250 to replace. Check inside the left side panel where all the electrical stuff is for any sign of water ingress.

Check with the doors shut that the suspension goes up and down as it's meant to.

Oh and of course check the wheels, check they are genuine, in good condition, and have good tyres, otherwise you could be looking at £1,000 for a new set, try and look across the entire tyre, they can be prone to uneven wear. Don't forget the spare either, and make sure the jack etc are there, and the locking wheel nut key!

That's all I can think of, but i'm sure I missed some things!
