Steering lock not engaging.

I noticed today that when I put my key in the ignition I didn’t hear the clicking of the steering lock disengaging. The car started fine.

So currently it doesn’t lock or unlock but not effecting anything aside from the security side of it.

What’s the best plan? I have read the module can be coded out. I have had anxiety about it locking after it did so with a battery issue so I would relieved to forget about it once and for all.

My Autel has bought up the attached, very similar to a scan I did while it was working.

 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

After some digging I have found out that the tool needed to code out the steering lock is a Blackbox Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme.

This is because it can access the CCF and edit it.

Gap emailed me back to say it isn’t something the iid tool can do.

Now all I need is to find someone with one in the south east of England… 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

I've got one, but vin locked, however if you want to buy a licence for it you can have it for a drink and postage as I haven't used it since I had a L320 sport back in the day. Check blackbox solutions to make sure. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Thanks. Looking more into it I would need a PC laptop which I don’t have. Will keep it in mind however.

I found this lot, anyone got any experience of them? Very cock-sore on the phone and say they are the only ones in the world with the proper fix for all steering column issues…

Slightly surprised there were no real comments on this issue considering it’s a common and major floor of the car so thought I would write up the below:

In the end I went for the more expensive option for piece of mind - in short the system has been updated and improved.

I used a guy called Elliot at Turner’s who has engineered a solution that basically reconditions or replaces the problem parts with a better engineered version - all designed after his failed and he found out how much Land Rover wanted for the fix. For this reason his is the only place this can be done.

I arrived with mine in the unlock position and two hours later left with it fully working and all sounding more crisp and precise. I was lucky that mine failed in the open position with no effect to the start procedure - rare apparently. He’s seen them lock while driving so I didn’t use the car until today, a short trip to Hemel Hempstead.

As with anything that’s done properly on these cars it’s not cheap, mine had the usual electrical issues and it cost me £740 all in.

He said he charges close to £1,200 when the solenoid is damaged due to drilling and spraying in WD40, something he kept saying not to do.

As ever I’m sure there are people with DIY fixes that are working fine but I didn’t fancy risking A - getting stuck somewhere with the family and B - things locking up while driving…

You can either have the car picked up or send in your column, which people from Europe have been doing.

Thought I would share my experience as can’t find any reviews about this fix on here. The guy after me drove from Cornwall… 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.
