The top glove box on my 2013 L405 is not working how I expected it to.
It's been like this since I bought the car so I don't know how it's meant to work.

If I press the top part of the button to open it, nothing happens. If I press the top part and pull the door down at the same time, it opens but it doesn't stay open, the second I let go of the door, it closes again.

What is it meant to do and, if this isn't normal, where do I start looking to fix it?

the button press unlocks it...its spring loaded ,you then pull down to access , slam to shut. ... - .- -.

So it's meant to stay open? Mine doesn't.

They don't stay open, the button arrow for the top just releases it from the latch, and you have to keep pressure on it to hold it down, it's this way so that it can't stay down when travelling (if you were involved in an accident, the passenger would sustain severe injuries).
to latch it closed just push it hard until you can't pull it open. (which can also be locked if I am correct, when using Valet Park on the screen)

Totally normal, the only thing I find it useful for is a Gap IID, in it's box, fits perfectly, and the pen holder is handy.

The bottom glovebox should be damped when it opens, the little thingamebob that does the damping fails quite frequently so I hear... Pete

It seems weird but I understand the logic.
The bottom glovebox is indeed damped.

Sadly, my bottom glovebox, doesn't work as intended, and smash's my other half on the knee when she opens it, could be worse............could be my knee!

can you tell me that 'fix' for the knee cruncher please....i do like to annoy my wife as much as possible..  ... - .- -.

There's an elastic type band at the rear, cut that and she'll squeale like Gazza in the Spurs Arsenal Semi Final when he was tackled, might also need a cruciate replacement though!
