I was taken aback by how many previous owners this Range Rover has, but the color combination is stunning. That said, I can’t let that cloud my judgment.

I’m currently waiting for a response regarding any additional mechanical work that may have been done.

Here’s what the owner has confirmed so far:

The current owner has had it for two years.
They mentioned it doesn’t come with an extensive service history before their ownership.
It’s the 4.4 SDV8 engine.
The owner has fitted four brand-new Pirelli tyres. Given that it’s being handed over to a specialist, I suspect it has been well cared for during their ownership.
Reselling it might be challenging.
It has 121,000 miles on the clock.

Work carried out under the current owner:

New rear calipers and discs
New tyres
Routine service
Brake hoses replaced
I’m aware that the oil cooler and turbos are common failure points on this engine, which is my main concern. Given the mileage and ownership history, what should I be looking out for, and is the 2013 model best avoided?

Update:
I informed the seller of the online service history and once checked, has confirmed it is there. I am now awaiting pictures.

Approved Land Rover outlets will record the service history on osh.landrover.com
Search "Land rover on line service history"
Type in the VIN Number (on the windscreeen)
There you can see if it has been serviced on time and what services include
You still have a decision to make but atleast you are better informed

Not that I'm particularly OCD or anything, but when i bought my 1 owner car, the dealer (not JLR) had the print out of the online service history in front of me (all Guy Salmon in Kent).
Last service was in the previous year.
So when I bought the car, I rang up the JLR dealer and explained I was the new owner, and even though the car was nearly 10 years I asked them for the detailed service sheets of everything that had been done to the car since new..................and they obliged by emailing the photo copies (less owners card name/details).
They even said that the last service hadn't been put online, and updated it for me!
So I have a full service history of the car (I now use a specialist who doesn't have Online SH) and I add his bills to my service folder.
I now have 2 oil services + a service schedule done each year (as the 'service required' seems to come up every 4 months, not sure what happened before I owned the car, but it only use to see Guy Salmon once a year.
I've had the car 18 months and its been fine (apart form the odd electrical gremlin).

I did the same for my Aston when I bought it, and have a full Aston Martin + Specialist (Phoenix Aston) Service History if in the unlikely event it will be worth something in the future, saying that I've had it 15 years now, and it's not worth more than when I bought it!

Ask the owner if he is willing to have it checked over by an independant or even main dealer (your cost)
If he says no, walk away, If yes, you will at least know what to expect, perhaps nothing or perhaps a lot

If you are intending to keep the car a few years, then if it's in the colour/spec you want, you can generally tell by the condition of the exterior/interior if its a keeper, I've bought cars in the past with little or no history, and you start your own, if you have it for a few years then sell it, a prospective buyer will be interested to see that someone has cared for it, and put right things that come up.

Online history was a thing in 2013, so I'd expect at least the first few services to be on there whilst it was still within warranty.

Price has to be a factor too.....

My FFRR has had 6 owners (2012) and patchy service history, but I was emailed some old invoices and did some digging and the fact that it had all matching Pirelli’s, a new genuine oil cooler and full service in the last 12 months, together with all the suspension arms and bushes being replaced convinced me to go for it. It also came with 3 month engine and gearbox warranty, which has already been broken nicked 2 weeks in.

I used the service history to negotiate a really good price, which left me with approx £2.5 -£3k to spend on getting it into top notch condition.

I don’t regret the purchase at all and have built up a nice little list of jobs to do. If you enjoy spannering and don’t get phased about it having to go into the garage, I’d say go for it if the price is right.

These are really cars for enthusiasts now, rather than someone who just wants a nice Rangey.

Hi, I'm not one for complete service history to be honest, it's so easy to manipulate and I'd rather purchase from an enthusiast who's a bit OCD as well. All that service book tells me is that the owners put it into a garage to do the servicing, it has no bearing on the actual condition of the car.

Mine hardly ever goes near a garage, but I'm fastidious that everything is done properly and I'm pretty confident that when I move the car on it's as good as it can possibly be.

That said, many folks on the forum would swear by a fully stamped up book so each to his own I guess. But the book can't tell you it's been thrashed within an inch of it's life and spent years on a Scottish seaside farm as a hack.

It's well worth investing in a good ODBII reader, so you could at least check those, and of course you have to use someone like (but not necessarily) Car Verticals to check the history and verify the mileage etc.

If you do have the chance, may be worth investing in a Pre Purchase Survey, a lot of Indies will do for a reasonable price.

If that all comes up clean and you like the car, it may be worth taking the plunge, worst case, if it's a dud, you can always move it on, hopefully not losing too much.
