Are D350s relatively rare? Many owners here?

Hi all, brand new owner of a ‘21 D350 Vogue SE here and I wanted to ask if it’s a pretty rare engine variant in the L405?

There are so few for sale and seemingly very little discussion of them here from my searches so I assume the pandemic timing of the engine’s release meant people holding out for the L460?

Am loving the engine so far, just wondering how this rarity may affect long term values with the V8 being such an iconic engine.

Also I was pretty disappointed to see under 400 mile range when I topped it up but I guess that range is calculated based on how it’s been driven?

Yesterday I collected my MY21.5 D350 Vogue SE. The D350 L405 was the only upgrade from my MY12 4.4TDV8 which I had for for almost 10 years that I would consider as all earlier L405s had the same engine as the L322. Unfortunately I looked and spotted one that I could stretch to.

I was pleased to see a few more revs in top gear as I got to be concerned at the TDV8 being so willing to work down to 1000 rpm ascending hills, but I didn't think that the D350 even with a few more revs had the TDV8's torque at 100 kph. Changing of the various settings has commenced, with one of the first to anable paddles for Drive as well as Sport. Oh, it had 22" rims which were totally unsuitable for my usage but now has 19" D5 rims with GG AT3 255/60R19. Early days...

Yeah mine has 22s as well which are ridiculous, did you see a substantial ride difference moving to the 19s? I don’t want to constantly fear curbing the current alloys

I think one of the reasons the D350 is rare is because, like me, the D300 does all they require and so people have opted for that engine.
I get over 30mpg (true) doing mostly short journeys, it is smooth, and quick enough for me. I don't tow so don't need the extra torque. Oh, and it was £6k less to buy. Thumbs Up All LR cars from 1984

If it’s out of warranty, you can just have it flashed with the D350 software.

Yeah the up front premium for an extra 50bhp is absolutely crazy but I think that price difference has largely evaporated with depreciation

I had the wheels swapped prior to driving it. I initially expected to have to drive it home on 22s along my rocky lane wondering if the tyres and rims would survive, but then a series of changes to a plan resulted in the 19s fitted with my required tyres and the 22s sold prior to the drive home.

I didn't need the D350 as my old 3.0 D4 had plenty of poke, but I had become accustomed to the 4.4 TDV8 both for overtaking and towing and really wanted the e-diff which wasn't available with the D300.

I wish I’d thought of that Graeme! Any chance you could share a pic of your car on 19s? I’m really curious how the wheel proportions look with a much fatter sidewall

That looks perfect, thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing wheel and tyre specs as I’m very new to this and was concerned about 19s, brakes and e-diff all working together

Is it not rarer just because it was the final year or 2 of production vs. The previous 10 years?

Not heard anything negative, in case you aren’t aware I’d ensure that oil is changed annually or 6k which ever comes first.

The D350 in the L405 is just like the TDV8 L322 except that it was produced for 2 years before the model change rather than for less than 1 year before the L460 was released.

My tyres are General Grabber 255/60R19 (LI 113) which I had on my TDV8 L322 but on D4 19" rims. I want higher load rated tyres and more sidewall for rocks. The front and rear brakes are the same as the D5 and it appears that LR made the decision to provide a 19" rim to go over the D5's big brakes. L494 19" rims don't fit, nor do the L663 Defender 19" rims fit.
I note that 19" rims are listed on the placard although with 235/65R19 tyres.

L663 Defender size 255/65R19 tyres are an oversize option, being the same OD as 275/55R20 and 255/60R20.

I have a late P400 straight six petrol, so in a similar position. Not many around and effectively what amounts to an L460 but in the 405 body shell. My previous 322 was in the last couple of months of build so was effectively a 405 in a 322 body shell so similar in that respect. I think I’ve saved about £100k so far by doing that.
