Roof box v towbar box

We stopped at some services earlier today on our way to the French Alps and happened to park ours next to a Range Rover SV. It looked rather lovely - if it is your car then congratulations! It was interesting to see the different approaches to additional luggage space.

Do you have a preference between a roof box and a towbar box?

Do you need permanent rails on the L460 to mount bars ?

I've had both options in the past & prefer tow mounted as it's easier, but it does get dirtier....

You can always go full on like RRTIM did here - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic41146.html

That tow bar box looks very neat. I wonder if you can just take it on the Eurotunnel without any issue (as in cost)?

I haven't got the roof bars on my car, but do have a tow bar, so could consider that as an option. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

IIRC when I took mine, I ticked the bikes on the back option.

Alistair you don’t need permanent roof rails on the L460 unlike the L405.

You do need the new cross bars which bolt onto four mounting points hidden beneath removable covers.

Those mounting points are not fitted in the factory (at least they weren’t on mine) and having read the instructions that included protecting the car’s paint work with aluminium foil, hot air guns and zinc primer I decided to heed the note that these should be fitted by a dealership. I was there for over five hours! One day I would like to meet the genius who designed that, or decided not to mount them in the factory.

Stan, although not as amusing as the other posts the reason those bollards were behind our cars is those pumps were closed - we both parked there while popping inside the store.

We are on our way home from the Alps now and the car has been exemplary. We used hill descent control a few times and we were all glad we were in a Range Rover when the snow really came down.

Looks great. Have you got winter tyres on?

Like the number plate!

Thanks Clipper!

I purchased a set of 21 inch wheels with Michelin Primacy all season mud and snow tyres which I fitted before the trip. I wasn't expecting any difference to the 23 inch wheels I have which also have all season tyres (Pirelli I think) - the reason for the change was to see if 21s were more comfortable (a bit, but not by as much as I was expecting) and so I didn't care if any of us driving the car to the Alps curbed the wheels.

In the snow the setup was superb.
