Does every AB I’m looking at really not have CarPlay?

I’m looking to buy a 2018-2019 RR Autobiography. I’ve used vin-spec.com to get a report on each of three of them, and every time it lists “Less CarPlay”. Does that really mean that out of those three cars everyone really removed the default installation of CarPlay? Or is that just how it appears on that report because it’s default on them, therefore it’s not a chosen option.

Thanks for any input from your experiences of these sort of specs or your own builds.

Those non-JLR VIN spec services aren't always very accurate so don't rely on them 100%.

As I understand it, all facelift 2018MY onwards have apple car play built in. They are wired, not wireless so you'll have to plug your phone in or buy a third party wireless device, as many of us have.

Only the L460's have wirelsss car play. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey
2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography (2021-2024) - Santorini Black
2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster (2016-2021) - Santorini Black

from 2018 wired carplay and wired android auto were standard across the trim range..

in the 2017 'crossover' year you could get a software upgrade from a landrover dealer, some were complimentary others were charged for.. ... - .- -.

My March 2017 Vogue spec has wired Carplay, nothing whatsoever mentioned in the build sheets…… “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

My MY17 AB has CarPlay (wired). I bought it used in 2019 and have no idea if it had been downloaded post production or it was factory spec.

I was only looking for an MY17 AB SDV8 and don’t recall any of the ones I was interested in not having CarPlay.

Regardless, I’m sure someone like Clive at CDS4X4 could sort it out for you at a lower price than a main dealer.

I called JLR Head Office with one of the VINs and she said that it definitely didn't have it from factory. According to H.O. it was an option in 2018MY and 2019MY and became standard in 2020MY.

My previous car had wireless CP which was nice, but I'm not as fussed about it as my previous car to that was a Velar with wired CP. However, if it doesn't have it at all (and it's not a software update away) then that's a huge deal breaker for me.

That's what I was hoping to find out. It definitely was from 2021 (I have the Price and Specification guide from that year), but according to JLR Head Office not in 2018 it wasn't.

To be honest, I'm less worried about the price, more about if it's even possible. It's the only real deal breaker on the car... Thanks for the recommendation though, if I find a really nice one without I may hit up Clive before purchasing to see if he thinks it can be enabled.

Given that it is possible to retrofit it on 2017 models, i would be quite sure it can be retrofitted on later models as well. As Carplay is a must for me as well, i would first check with companies like jlr-activations.uk that specialize in this kind of work and know all the details we are missing.
I have no affiliation with them, nor have any experience. I ve just found them looking to retrofit carplay in my 2017MY.

It's really simple to see if CarPlay is available or if it can be added but you have to check the user interface in the armrest.

So Adara's answer may actually get me to proof of the default for MY2018 being CarPlay is available or easily enable-able (not convinced that's a word, but you get what I mean), whether it's enabled or not.

I'm thinking that if a SIM slot or HDMI socket is present then CarPlay is addable, and the 2018 UK brochure has "CONNECT PRO¹" as a "Standard feature", with the ¹ being a footnote saying it requires a SIM - therefore the logic is that MY2018 cars will always have a slot, and therefore always be enable-able.
