Lower control arm bolts

I’m replacing the lower arms today as they failed the MOT

The bolts were seized solid. It’s taken a couple of hours to get the nuts off. Luckily I’d bought new bolts.

I’m just wondering why LR thought it was a good idea to thread the bolts almost all the way instead of having a shank on them. The bolts I took out had worn where they pass through the holes in the chassis. The short shank section is fine but the threaded bit has worn and rattles around in the hole.

I’m sure a snug fit shank would’ve been better.

The bolts that come out from mine do have a shank, of sorts at least. I know from bitter experience of taking several hours getting mine out as they were also stuck pretty solid.
