Looking for a nice driving route

Hello all
We are planning on driving to Cleobury Mortimer to visit my brother in law and wondered if any one has any suggestions for a route for an extra couple of nights.

I quite fancy north wales but am open to any thing really. So 1 night in cleobury and perhaps 2 nights extra before returning to Derby. Avoiding Birmingham if possible please.

David
PS I am very keen on avoiding Kidderminster as I got a ticket last time Rolling with laughter Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006

Hi Bigbo

As I know where Cleobury Mortimer is (Clibree if you’re a local…..), having grown up in the area I can suggest a rough route from Derby off the top of my head.

Basically Head South west but aim for Stafford, then head towards Telford and down to Bridgnorth and there’s a nice switchback road down to Cleobury. Going back, head north west to Ludlow and then up to Church Stretton and then up around Shrewsbury heading off towards Oswestry and on up to the Berwyn Mountains. Head back towards Shrewsbury from there and then head east to Stone and up towards Leek and then home.

To be honest you could do a couple of nights in either Church Stretton or Much Wenlock and mooch about Carding Mill Valley/Long Mynd/Wenlock Edge/Stiperstones, but all are within an hour of Cleobury, so it won’t feel much of a journey.

Agree on avoiding Kiddy - I went to school there and have tried to avoid the place ever since!

Happy travelling

Andy

As Andy suggested I'd also recommend similar area, Mum's side of the family are all dotted about round there.

What are you wanting to do on your extra days?

Much Wenlock is good as a base to stay, few nice local pubs and restaurants. Then from there take your pick, plenty within a short drive.

Church Stretton / Long Mynd good for a walk

Ironbridge / Coalbrookdale - museums galore and scenic

Bridgnorth / Ludlow the other with plenty to see

if you touch the A5 make sure you have your eyes open or Waze on as it is littered with speed cameras Current
