L322 - AJV8 4.4 06 - Handbrake Performance

Hi all,

I've been spending my spare time rebuilding a L322 that was going to be scrapped. I've rebuilt the entire rear end of the car and it's nearly time for MOT!

One thing that's been a concern is the handbrake.

I've replaced everthing apart from the lever... but after adjusting multiple times it still feels a little rubbish. Of course I've followed the guide on adustment from JLR and done all the normal forum searching..

I can put the handbrake on at 10MPH and it'll stop and slow down the car with some travel remaining but it just feels a little lacking... I know at the end of the day it's a near 3 tonne car but still feels a little crap..

Is it just me? Is this normal or am I missing something? This is my first L322 so I'm not sure what normal would be!!

As per normal all the help is very much appreciated! Very Happy

All sounds normal to me. I don't think the handbrake is designed to stop a moving vehicle, so no handbrake turns I'm afraid.

When I did mine I replaced everything but it wasn't until I replaced the cables that I got a handbrake that would either hold the car when in gear or on a moderate slope in neutral.

The requirements for the MOT are, in the words of my tester, "pathetically low" so if it holds on a slope in neutral you should be good to go.
