Media Player Hard Drive Capacity

I copied some CDs to the internal Hard drive of my car (MY2019), but it was showing as full after just a handful. My older Disco4 had space for 8, I would have thought that there should be more space available.

I have ripped some CDs to FLAC which should make the file size smaller and copied those across, they still seem to sound as good (to my ears), but I am intrugued as to how many more albums I could fit on. Anyone know the capacity available for media storage?

It might depend on the quantity of tracks on each disc.(File size?)
Pretty sure I copied 10 onto mine.

That makes sense. I had ticked the "rip at highest quality" option, which probably didn't help.

Has anyone ever gone in there, knife-and-fork in hand, and swapped it out for a 6TB one?
Sounds like a useful project……. Twisted Evil Whistle

Should work if the disk format & file system/boot files? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

The multimedia system is powered by the IVI (Intel in-vehicle infotainment), practically an Intel Atom micro PC with a 60GB SSD... "It's an Intel Quad Core 1.9 GHz Atom E3845 SOC with 4GB of RAM and a 60GB SSD. If Rear Seat Entertainment is specified, a 160GB SSD is used. With the 60GB drive, 10GB is configured for user media, the 160GB drive increases that to 110GB of user media storage". The maps occupy ~ 35GB.
Due to the design, I don't believe the SSD can be replaced/upgraded. Why not just save the files on an USB drive? I am successfully using a 512GB drive in mine, but it is true that with CarPlay, Spotify and YouTube Music it never gets used these days...

Interesting. I do have the RSE, so should have something like 75GB of free space.

A typical FLAC compressed CD takes up around 450MB, so I should be able to squeeze 160 CDs on. I'll give it a go.
