Since I had my car serviced I occasionally get a whiff of oil in the car. So I thought they may have overfilled it or maybe spilt some oil on something that gets hot. To eliminate the first I used the oil level indicator from the service menu - it shows full. However my question is if it were overfilled would it just show as full or would it show more, I realise that this could be a difficult question but I suppose I could suck a bit out and see if it still shows full but as I say its only the occasional whiff and its a bit wild out there at the moment Geoff

If they overfilled it, the oil display messaage says 'Overfilled' so I'd say your level is fine. MD's now use an automated machine that fills the oil automatically to the correct amount, asuming of course they select the correct engine!!

Years ago when it was first introduced the MD where my mate works had the machine setup wrongly and cost them several replacement engines  L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

L322 display, but 405 will be similar.

Could be coincidental with the service but one of the more common culprits for this smell of oil can be the oil cooler leaking but obviously that depends on the engine, mileage, etc. _______________________________________________

Mine 322 got overfilled at the dealer so I had to drop a boy on it. It does say on the dash indicator.

Could be the cooler or the o rings on the turbo feed leaking also. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I'll just keep an eye on things, certainly doesn't look overfilled (it fluctuates between this and max) also the oily smell has now gone.

What does tht indicate?

FORWARD ALERT
The Forward Alert symbol looks like a vehicle surrounded by a triangle. When this symbol appears green, the Forward Alert feature is active, which means your Land Rover will alert you when you cease to maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front of you.

Alistair is right, my son wont travel with me unless Forward Alert is on, the dash lights up like a Christmas Tree if you get too close and also there is a heck of a noise comes through the speakers. Don't tell my son but it's helped me a few times being the absent minded old fool he thinks I am.  Geoff
