Broken Riv Nuts!!!

Hi,

Just in the process of getting the oil cooler leak sorted on 4.4 SDV8.

Stumbled at the 1st hurdle.....someone has been in before and probably used an impact gun on the suspension stiffener bar bolts....3 of 8 are stripped. Managed to get a spanner onto the one on the turret, enabling me to swing the bars out of the way to get the manifold off, but I'd quite like to fix this before I put everything back together.

The one from the suspension strut tower came out, and basically looks like a chunky rivnut. Are these availble as spares from LR, or some kind of repair kit?? If not are there any workarounds (other than just using nuts and bolts??

Thanks

Mine has exactly the same problem. I haven't come up with a solution as yet, but I need to get it back together pretty soon!

Rivnuts are generally available, no need to go to Land rover for them, do a search on the net.

The rivnuts require a tool for fitting, buy very often the tool is too big to get into tight spaces to fit a new rivnut, however they can be fitted using a simple hand made tool, this will also enable you to fit new rivnuts into tight spaces, the video link below shows you how to do this. Hope this helps Thumbs Up
