L405 Catastrophic Engine Failure

Hi All, I have my late husband’s Range Rover Vogue L405 with just 70k on the clock with catastrophic engine failure.
It’s been into Vertu Land Rover and have confirmed the problem and say JLR is not offering any good will and have quoted me £14k for a new engine even though the car is fully serviced.
The woman on the phone said it was too old for goodwill and I pointed out that it was to do with what mileage the engine had actually done and that a car a year old could have done 70k too !
So I can’t afford £14k and I’m left with an immaculate Range Rover needing a new engine.

Someone wondered about the car ombudsman ?
Any thoughts lovely people?!

Thanks

How old is your car?

What engine is in the car?

Does it have full Land Rover main dealer service history with no missed services? 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

If it’s got all as above and under 10yrs old you may have a chance. What engine and main dealer service history may help us along. 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

Hi,

I think it would be helpful to have more details as even with an “engine failure” it does not necessarily make it a lump of junk.

I think it would be helpful to know:
- exact age and model of vehicle (I.e. which engine)
- it’s service history, how many and frequency
- what lead you to the problem, did it just happen or was it “playing up” prior to failure
- what exactly have the garage said is the issue

Terrible situation I know but maybe there’s a path out of it.

Jon
