What under the wheel arch liners?

Hi guys,

Just picked up a 2017 and plan at the weekend to give the underneath a good clean and coat some of the parts i noticed with surface rust with lanocare.

Has anyone taken off the wheel arch liners and the plastic under sill trim that runs along the body? Is there anything behind them that is worth checking for any potential corrosion issues and protecting?

worth the time and effort?

cheers
Mark

The body work shell will generally be fine behind the liners. You get corrosion where steel parts are bolted to the shell , such as the sub frames. (Read the threads about ACE pipes to see some examples).

Under the plastic trays will likely be collected mud rather than corrosion, but once in a blue moon itโ€™d be worth cleaning them out. V8 or else ...

I think it's worth checking everything behind the liners for corrosion, but particularly the electrical ground points in the front wheel arches.

The fuel tank guard / cradle will probably be rusty but unfortunately they rust from the inside out. Expensive to replace so people remove it, get it shot blasted, then ( if there's anything left ) repair, paint and replace. I've given mine a couple of coats of Lanoguard to make it look better till I get round to doing it properly.
Happy rust hunting ๐Ÿ™‚
