Lost communication with transmission module HELL

Thought I’d start a new thread as we have now narrowed the issue down to the above error code,

Started with using the pre heater then car started then all hell broke loose loads of errors flashing up and the gear knob would not raise, up until this the car started and ran perfectly.

I’ve had the battery checked and it’s all good but I will try a new battery from my van (similar size) just to finally rule out the battery.

I know the TCM is inside the gearbox but is there a control unit or plug in the engine bay or an earth lead I can check, on my old D3 there was a multi plug under the scuttle panel that could get damp inside and cause the terminals to corroded,

I’m desperate to get this sorted my wife has stage 2 Breast cancer and is halfway through chemo and hasn’t got the energy to drive, my only other option is my low Luton works van not great for her or parking,

Any help or tips will be gratefully received 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Still putting my money on the battery... Personally I don't believe in coincidence.

Please send my best to your wife, mine has just had breast cancer for the forth time so we do know how you feel... Pete

Thanks Pete i will do mate and hope your wife is doing well, what i dont understand is the battery will start the car no issues, it will start the gear knob will rise i can take hand break off but 5 seconds later all warnings on the dash gear knob goes down and you cand move it, if i put a charger on and try to clear the codes whilst its being charged it wont clear them just says update failed when clearing the codes, im asking around for a new battery to try but im loosing the will with this car now 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

They can be very tricky sometimes and test you dearly.

Hopefully a hard reset disconnecting the battery (which you will do when fitting a new one) and everything will be OK, I have heard of it taking a few times to clear the codes....

At least it's a relatively easy thing to do yourself, if, god forbid it doesn't work then at least voltage is ruled out...

My wife is fine at the moment thanks.... Pete

Mine did exactly this a while ago. The transmission module is just in front of the brake servo. I checked for continuity on the main feed from the fuses by the battery, through to the trans module and found a bad connection to the relevant fuse in the under bonnet fuse box

Sorry I won’t be able to provide pics as I am abroad at the moment. The fuse box under the bonnet is easy to see just to the left of the engine. I would also suggest removing the transmission module connector to check for corrosion etc. from recollection the trans module is just to the left of the wiper motor.[/quote]

Thanks for all the replies I’ve been working away so not had chance to take a look. I replaced the battery with a new one unfortunately this did not help, I’m on site again until sat so I’ll check fuses and plugs then 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Just had garage do another scan on there snap on diagnostic kit, they can’t even “talk” to the transmission module so I’m going to check fuses and earths and try to get underneath to make sure there is no damage to the wires going into the gearbox 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

As mentioned in my previous post. Did you check/clean the connection with the trans module under the bonnet, and the fuses and connections to it?

I don’t know if this is any help at all but, as the 8HP70 Mechatronic is E-shift rather than M-shift (6HP26 & 28 ), the electronic module only uses seven wires to communicate and receive power to/from the vehicle.

Six of the seven (i.e. not the black ground cable which has its own eyelet) first pass through the C2365/6 connector shown in the photo, if you are able to identify it on your car.

The seven wires are for the Park signal, LIN, CAN (High & Low), Ground, Permanent 12V and Ignition switch 12V
