Evening all,
I'm about to attempt a drain and refill of the coolant on my 4.4TDV8. I changed the Oil Cooler a while back, have now replaced the changeover valve from the FBH and it's high time I treated the car to some new coolant.
Being a good boy, I immediately read through a ton of forum posts and checked the WM to see what the correct procedure for a drain is, only to be confused even further (than normal). The WM very helpfully posts 3 images of places to remove hoses to drain. 1 is the main radiator (check), another is the mini rad in the right wheel well (check) and the other image is... What is that image supposed to indicate? A random hose attached to something in the engine bay? As there are no words to accompany these official images, I thought I'd ask the gurus here for the definitive drain procedure.
Regarding refilling - I have a vacuum-filler-set which I've used on other vehicles before - easy peasy. I see from the WM that's also the preferred method of refilling. Any tips to ensure a perfect fill first time? I've got 20L of what my Mrs calls weak Ribena in the garage ready to be sucked into the system, so I'm covered there.
I also definitely have an air lock in the heater core. I'm going to be flushing it out once I've dropped the coolant - judging by my service records, this is going to be the first change of coolant for the car. Good idea?
I'll be flushing the system a couple of times before the final refill - won't to any harm and I'll know if my vacuum is deep enough.
Looking forward to your suggestions. Ta! -------------------------
