If I was in your place, considering the huge discrepancy in the actual mileage, and all the other problems, I would reject the car. There may be other hidden problems with this car. Someone along the line knew about the mileage problem and it was not declared, what else did that person(s) not declare? You have to ask yourself was this done deliberately, sounds like it was. |

What does the mot history show? It must have had three or more mots at that age. Does the mileage movement tally with the service history mileage?

I think what’s happened is they’ve changed the mileage and forgotten to alter other modules that have a memory for that data point. I may be wrong but it often requires a chip being changed to allow the “technician” to mess about with the data.

Why would you clock a car for such a low milage? 14k difference is it worth the effort? 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue |

This might be a silly question, you dont think it has a new engine in it do you? hence the mileage discrepancy? If the original engine went pop and a new one was installed surely you would get a mileage discrepancy on ECU as there may be a mismatch? Only a thought? |

It's more like 24K miles, but I get your point The car has probably been on a lease / PCP deal at some point in its life (as mentioned by Scouse Exile). A vehicle leased on a 5K miles / annum basis is much cheaper per month than one on 15K miles / annum. So if it's happened in its first 3 years of life it's probably not been serviced when it should have been either. I'd be checking its LR online service history (using the VIN) to see when the first service was carried out, it might not have been until 3 years was up (instead of annually), when some "mileage correction" was carried out (winding it back from 40K to 15K for example). Or someone may have actually gone to all the bother of having it corrected annually. I've long suspected people take cars out on lease deals and have the car clocked before taking it back, especially when "mileage correction" services are cheaply offered by dodgy individuals. The lease companies are getting wise to this though and check multiple ECU's when the vehicle is returned to reveal the true mileage. What happens after that I don't know, but I'd be pursuing a fraud case against the individuals concerned if I was the lease company. As D3Jon points out it’s more like 24k. If you assume that someone got it on a cheap lease deal, say 10,000 miles at the most, and then did 24,000 over that during say 18 months / 2 years - the excess mileage could be as much as 15p to 20p - then the bill is somewhere around £3,600 to £4,800. These mileage “correction” companies should correct all the data but if it’s been done on the cheap then they may have left footprints behind at the scene of the crime. The engine idea also merits thought, not sure how that changes the mileage though as I’d would have imagined the data is on the ECU, unless that gets changed? J |

That's a wedge of money for a 2017 car - it wants to be beyond perfect for that sort of money! If you do a deal with the selling dealer, it wants to include everything being fixed, mileage corrected in all ECU's, and something like £3 / £4K back to cover the extra miles it's covered. But even then, you may always doubt what else either has or hasn't been done to the vehicle. This is true of any 2nd hand car purchase, but amplified when it already has a proven 'less than perfect' history, and further amplified by the fact you've paid top-dollar for your perfect dream vehicle. As stated by others, how does the MOT mileage check out? What about it's online LR service history? Was it serviced every 12 months (and not just on mileage) as required by LR? If it was me, personally, I'd reject it. I'd be forever wondering what else has been tampered with. For example has it been shunted, leading to your rear vehicle detection issues? I’m not sure if you did your own checks before buying the car but most of the larger companies Hpi, carvertical ect offer a guarantee to discrepancies that show up especially on mileages after an assured report has been generated with varying amounts of compensation . Regarding the car itself the mileage could have been clocked from new with it covering twice as much as it should before its first service with Covid and dealers being closed and extensions being granted on servicing. I would reject the car just to eliminate any more nasty surprises. 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

It's never good paying a large wedge of your hard earned for a car and then discovering problems with it, which can spoil the whole experience. The issues you have identified are a serious red flag, not only around the history of the car, but what else has been messed with that you haven't found yet.

LWB - has it been a chauffeur/Uber Lux etc car? Suspect most of the stuff running around town visits Mo and his laptop every year before it’s serviced. |
