2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aintree Green

Land Rover OEM flange tow bar question...

I've just bought one of these and had it fitted:

I'm very happy with it, but for two serious flaws:

1. The detachable part of the tow bar is only held in place by one pin and there is no provision for locking it into place and...

2. When it is in place, there is a very small amount of (fairly noisy) free movement, both vertically and horizontally.

Has anyone experience of using one of these and found a solution that's slightly less radical than getting the removable part seam welded into place?

nut and bolt to replace the pin...

insulating tape around the flange so its tighter in the hole..you could also use thin shims .. ... - .- -.

The parts for holding a detachable bar to the socket on an L322 has a bolt with a hole for an “R” clip, so getting one of them should solve one.
The rattle, which is present when you use the same drop plate/farmers hitch on an L322. Maybe solved with a bolt tapped in either side of the socket nearest back end. I had a receiver hitch for a 90 years ago which had pitch bolts and a locking nut either side.
Any use?

Or put “receiver hitch anti rattle shim in google and a rather neat clamp thing comes up as an option!

I shouldn’t really be surprised they went ‘backwards’ - I had all the L322 variants.....

Early cars were pin, then they went with a bolt, then finally a bolt and also the hole in the insert piece was threaded half way.

The trade off, fairly obviously was rattle vs speed of removal - If it’s a semi-permanent fixture, then the latter implementation was best, but for occasional use, the former......

BTW crazy as it sounds, welding a type approved tow bar renders it non-type approved and therefore illegal..... not sure about swapping a pin for s bolt......

All as above, if you don't want the rattle use the bolt. If you want speedy removal to keep the car looking nice and avoid theft then use the pin and R clip.

I didn't want the bolt and hastle of removal so stick with the pin. The easiest way I found to stop the rattle was a business card shoved in the top of the receiver. Dead easy to remove, everyone has them and usually to hand. There are previous posts on this years ago if you use the search might turn some more info up. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Don't knock it, just look at what the advert says comes with the kit:

It's just not available in the UK, so I'll need to buy one from the states at $25.95. The only problems is the set postage from the US of $22.50

Until I started looking into this today, I had absolutely no idea how versatile this "receiver hitch" is and just how nutty some of the uses that Americans come with for it are. Here are just a few of them:

... and some of them will work on the FFRR - but not all of them unless they changed if for the L405......

On the L322 the whole setup was 50mm- vs the US system being 2" or 52mm square !

I used to have a Jeep with a 2" system and about 50% fitted the RR

Ah, I really am learning quickly here. I shall be out for an accurate measurement of my receiver in the morning (too cold and dark now!).

The device you wanted will be fine - it's only things that need to fit into the receiver you need to be careful with
