Spain 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Baltic Blue
Rear brake slide pin length

Good afternoon,

I ordered a set of rear brake slider pins, TRW ST1730, from Autodoc, which listed the 2012 L322 as a compatible car. The dust guards were included. The TRW (ZF) website also lists it as compatible.

Again, from Autodoc, at the same time, I ordered a Frenkit 745814 rear calliper rebuild kit—pistons, seals, etc. Included are the pins and rubber dust guards. Autodoc lists the parts to fit the 2012 L322 with TRW callipers. The Frenkit website lists it as compatible.

Comparing the pins, diameter and length they are quite different. The dust guards too are very different.

Can anyone confirm, what length the pins should be? The Frenkit is far more chunkier at around 75mm long and 10mm diameter.

I am changing the pins fitted back in 2023 because the rear brakes are squeaking and I have a funny feeling the wrong pins were used due to this confusion and wrongly trusting suppliers, so comparing the new ones to the current ones fitted is no point.

Thanks!

Ah I wish I saw this before. I had all the slider pins out earlier today when I did my rear discs & pads. The slider pins were all seized - ugh!

I should be working on it again tomorrow, I can easily get a pin out to measure again but looking at the rubber boot it's definitely the shorter one of the two if those two came together, mine have that boot on theirs, and I did think the other ones looked too long just from first glance before I noticed the different types of boot. '95 VW Corrado VR6

Thanks, yesterday when I did the job (new rear brake flexi lines, new pins, dust boots and pistons etc) it was obvious Autodoc list the wrong pin pack for the 4.4 TDV8. The smaller ones of the two just rattled around in the pin hole, completely useless. Thankfully I had the spare ones from Fenkit to use. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior
