It does seem strange that a part that JLR know WILL fail don't make sure their supply chain can provide enough to satisfy the obvious demand.
When my car was identified as having this issue, my indy had 4 cars in their compound that couldn't run, waiting for them!
There was a theory that JLR had changed supplier but that was never confirmed and the problem of short/no supply still persists  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I would imagine they are the same but best to check on Microcat in the WIKI...  Pete

Pump is mechanical so runs when the engine does, you could take it off but it would be a headache as you will need a shorter drive belt among other things...  Pete
