Drivers seat base foam

Hello all,
Long story
So my MY20 AB driver’s seat base is bloody uncomfortable compared to the passenger seat, I'm the 3rd owner and has around 36500 miles. I an average build and just over average weight, so I don’t know previous owner sizes Surprised It got to a point that iI would be lifting my arse and repositioning it whilst driving, surely a car of this shouldn’t experience this so soon..

So I ordered a new foam base, along with a hog ring kit. Then proceeded to remove the 4 bolts , positioned seat for lifting out then disconcerted both batteries, removed trim exposing seatbelt tensioning mechanism and wiring, tilted seat back disconnecting 3 plugs and ready for the big heave ho, protected to door opening with a towel, actually not that bad but if in a garage make sure you have room to get past.

Now on my temporary work bench covered to protect the leather, I proceeded to un clip the leather from seat base frame, wiring plug for seat heater, to the front it just clips into a plastic clip and out she comes.

Folded back the leather to expose the hog rings.. Where are they? None fitted and turns out that they are actually a plastic u shape with two little barbs pointing down, gently spread these with a screwdriver and lift then proceed until all detached job done.

Heater mat this is only glued about 3 inch either side but bloody dam sticky stuff, as I am re using this I had the problem of dethatching it, I found that using adhesive remover sprayed on worked well, be patient and let it soften, the fine copper heating element is now visible underneath, handle with care.

Now im ready to glue the mat to the foam............. Wait a minute that doesn’t look right so after a few checks I discovered its to the LH base but a google search with part number states RH. So back to dealer Monday and explained the issue, leave it with us I'll order a replacement and send it out.

We've got a new foam, same as the first one, going to contact technical they said, technical say its correct, on no its not (and it’s not December yet) Now asked for photos of my original foam so obliged, there is a silver label which states RH I suggested have the Lefts been bagged as Rights and vice versa, they did order a left and guess what they got a left.

So poor old Johnny 1 star has now to trawl through all there stock hopefully to find the correct base.

My seats are cooled, no filter seen but these do cool very well.

I will update hopefuly with good news

Hens Teeth

Well if you’re still interested in the seat foam saga read on..
Received a call yesterday updating me on the next steps they are going to do but told don’t hold your breath, ok I’ll wait no later than Monday, only so many times you can borrow a mates car.

I decided to google the part number and checked a search result, they were showing one in stock, Is this correct I thought knowing my luck so far? I decided to email the company explain my problem and asked would they be so kind and physically look at the part with details I gave, sure enough they replied along with photos for me to look at. Censored it’s the correct one finally.

So just phoned my local stealer and explained I’ve found one, great he said I haven’t heard anything back, card details and full refund given.

Placed my order with the other company and awaiting delivery Monday
And a brucey bonus I saved £27.90 and that’s with £18.00 postage as well.

By the way part # LR100653 (cooled seats )

Thank you JLR Parts UK

Oh happy days

My only complaint about my L405 is the uncomfortable seat base. It was the same when I bought it at 50 odd k miles. Never had that issue with the L322.

That job seems a bit of a faff to do. And probably not something many indys have done, so they may make a pigs ear of it. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

New seat base.

Thought I'd give an update, under the seat foam pad there is a sprung metal frame but unfortunately not sold separately, in my madness I removed the passenger seat and swapped them over as identical and seen a lot less of someone's fat arse.

Foam arrived this aft 4th Nov, quick check ... yes it's correct, now onto glueing the heater mat on after marking where the glue needed to be sprayed, coat on foam and mat then waited till dry and proceed to stick on. All done then clicked the cover back on.

Fitted base on frame and proceed to fasten all clips frome seat cover to attachment points, heater mat connected up along with two lower trims.

Heave ho and the seats lifted back in, connected all 3 plugs back together lower seat down, two front bolts in and two rears, seat belt restraint unit bolted back in and actuator plug, feed trim over seat belt and clip on, further trims around seat sliders and all done.

Both batteries connected and boot rebuilt, had to manually close lower and upper boot, locked and opened car now work off key, windows one touch up set up.

The test.... had a drive out, checked all 3 heat settings and cooling which worked as did, my conclusion is what a difference in haw my arse felt in such a short drive out.

Now need some advice, my remote app is still showing as stolen even after a drive, locking and unlocking car? Has anyone a clue. Cheers BV

When you diisconnect the battery the car sends a message to the incontrol centre and they log it. You have to contact them to let them know it was you who wasn’t stealing the car. I had the same at the weekend, I got a text from them letting me know the car had been stolen (me disconnecting the battery on my drive!) 30 seconds later call later and the suspended the monitoring for an hour and reset the app.
